Joe Scarborough Sends Blogger Friendliest C&D Ever
It always amazes me when media talking heads get their knickers in a twist over something on a weblog. Joe Scarborough, a former Florida Republican congressman and current MSNBC factotum, is all atwitter over something at AllHatNoCattle. It seems that Lisa is asking a few seemingly reasonable questions about Lori Klausutis, a 28-year-old aide to then-Rep. Scarborough, who was found dead in his Ft. Walton Beach office in July, 2001. Y’all might remember something else that happened about that time…Gary Condit and Chandra Levy? Hmm? Sure, it was only all over the media because Condit, a married California Democratic congressman, was schtupping Levy, an aide roughly half his age. Then Levy disappeared and…oh, the humanity. Condit was (deservedly) pilloried in the media, and though he’s never been officially accused of Levy’s death, the scandal forced him from office.
So, how did Joe Scarborough get off so relatively easily in the media when Condit was buried under a s—tstorm? Who knows? Perhaps because Levy died in Washington and Klausutis in Ft. Walton Beach, FL, which is not normally known as a media center. Throw in an illicit affair, and the whiff of scandal is tough to miss.
What I don’t understand is why Scarborough feels so threatened by a lone blogger asking questions about Klausutis’ death. If Scarborough did nothing wrong, then what’s he worried about? As far as I know, Scarborough has never been charged with or even accused of being responsible for Klausutis’ untimely demise. That doesn’t mean there aren’t legitimate questions deserving of answers. If Scarborough were to simply ignore Lisa’s questions, most likely no one in the media would give them so much as a first glance, much less a second. And now Scarborough’s flunkies are sending her a cease and desist letter? Isn’t that a bit like trying to kill a mosquito with an AK-47??
Someone needs to get a grip….
