CNN Apologizes for Mistaken Headline

A Monday night broadcast of CNN’s Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer confused America’s “number one enemy” with one of America’s most popular senators, RAW STORY has learned. CNN apologized for the error, which came after a series of incidents in recent months in which Illinois Democrat Senator Barack Obama was subtly or directly linked with militant Islamic personalities who have been hostile to the United States….”I just want to make a correction, an apology, Soledad, for what we did yesterday. In ‘The Situation Room,’ we had a bad graphic,” Blitzer said in a transcript delivered to RAW STORY by CNN’s public relations staff. “We were doing a piece on the hunt for Osama Bin Laden in this new year 2007. Unfortunately, instead of saying “where is Osama,” it said “where is Obama.” I’m going to be calling Senator Barack Obama to make a personal apology.”

Man, this may (or may not) have been accidental, but someone’s got some ‘splainin’ to do, eh? I’m not altogether certain what to make of this, but for sheer political theater, it’s tough to beat. It’s difficult to argue with a large number of Left-wing bloggers, among whom the general sentiment seems to be:

…that the ‘B’ and ‘S’ keys are far from one another on the keyboard, making a mere typographical error unlikely.

To their credit, Obama’s people are being quite gracious about the whole mess. I think they probably realize that they’ll get a good deal more mileage out of this by remaining above the fray (while laughing their asses off, no doubt). They’re smart enough to recognize that they can get all the mileage they’ll ever need or want without lifting a finger or wading into the controversy. Sometimes the best response is a muted one.

Tommy Vieto, Obama’s press secretary, said he appreciated the bloggers and activists who brought the error to light so quickly and helped make sure it was corrected.

“Though I’d note that the ‘s’ and ‘b’ keys aren’t all that close to each other, I assume it was just an unfortunate mistake, and don’t think there was any truly malicious intent,” Vieto said.

Just think; it’s only January, 2007. We normally have to wait until primary season for the entertainment and f—kup factor to be this high. Only 22 months until Election Day, y’all…this oughta be fun, eh? I can hardly wait until the first time someone tries to “Swift Boat” Obama.

Where’s Obama? Stay tuned…I have a feeling we’ll all be very aware of Obama’s whereabouts…and very soon.
