Everybody wants to rule the world...we actually do

Pentagon Creates Military Command for Africa (via Sean-Paul Kelley)

The Pentagon says it is creating a new unified military command for its operations in Africa. Africom, will cover all parts of the continent except Egypt, which will continue to fall under Central Command. Pentagon officials say the move signals Africa’s growing importance to U.S. interests.

Interesting, isn’t it? We can’t win in Iraq, and our military is stretched almost to the breaking point. We can’t make a commitment to rebuilding New Orleans and the Gulf Coast. We can’t adequately fund Head Start or Children’s Health Insurance Program’s. We can’t help the elderly with their heating or prescription bills. We can’t create a decent universal health care system. But GODDAMN if we can’t rule the world!

You know, I understand the importance of Africa, but before we begin diving into the Heart of Darkness, shouldn’t we try taking care of some of the pressing priorities here at home?? Just a thought….
