It's the propaganda, stupid....

Have we forgotten the lessons of September 11th?

  • Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader ©

Driving home from work yesterday afternoon, I was listening to a news story on NPR when I heard Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader © express this sentiment for the bazillionth time. My first thought was “How COULD we forget September 11th? You remind us several times a day.” What angers me so much about this is that the implied message is that we NEED TO BE AFRAID. Yes, BE AFRAID and trust Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader © …after all, he’s Presidentiary.

I would never, EVER suggest that we simply forget 9.11. I lost a friend at the World Trade Center myself, and that’s something I will never allow myself to forget. At what point, though, do we begin looking forward? When do we stop spending every day of our lives living in fear?

Yes, the lessons of 9.11 are out there, and they vary depending on your political point of view. I don’t dispute that 9.11 is a memory that should stay with us. Nonetheless, this sorry excuse for a President and his inept, mean-spirited Administration beat the 9.11 drums several times daily for the sole reason of sowing fear among the Sheeple. There’s certainly nothing wrong with being aware that we live in a very different world post-9.11…as if that hasn’t repeatedly been rendered painfully self-evident for the past five-plus years. At some point, though, we need to stop living in mortal fear and allowing our government the right to gradually and inexorably curtail our civil rights.

We’ve allowed Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader &copy and his neoCon thugs to hijack 9.11 as a justification for most anything. It’s been used to justify the war in Iraq, when NO evidence has ever been found that connects Iraq to terrorism or to 9.11. It’s been used to ratchet up security at airports to senseless, ridiculous levels. It was used to saddle us with the USA PATRIOT Act, perhaps the single biggest assault on the rights of Americans in our nation’s history.

This senseless, partisan exploitation of our worst day ever needs to stop. And it needs to stop now. We remember 9.11. We haven’t, and we won’t, forget the lessons of 9.11. Enough already.
