Targeted Blogger Quits Edwards Campaign

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — One of the chief campaign bloggers for Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards quit Monday after conservative critics raised questions about her history of provocative online messages. Amanda Marcotte posted on her personal blog, Pandagon, that the criticism “was creating a situation where I felt that every time I coughed, I was risking the Edwards campaign.” Marcotte said she resigned from her position Monday, and that her resignation was accepted by the campaign….”No matter what you think about the campaign, I signed on to be a supporter and a tireless employee for them, and if I can’t do the job I was hired to do because Bill Donohue doesn’t have anything better to do with his time than harass me, then I won’t do it,” Marcotte wrote Monday night.

pope.gifLet me just state for the record that former DUMB@$$ AWARD wiener and world-class bigot and blowhard Bill Donohue can kiss my furry White @$$. Donohue, who wouldn’t recognize Christian charity if it bent him over a chair at gunpoint and forcibly violated him, cares nothing for free speech or expression. The only thing he cares about is the “protection” of what he sees as an oppressed minority- intolerant, hateful Catholics who are convinced that God is on their side and their side alone.

Donohue has unleashed his inner media whore because of some opinions expressed (on their own weblogs) by two bloggers hired by John Edwards to work for his Presidential campaign. Donohue didn’t appreciate the fact that Amanda Marcotte and Melissa McEwan had expressed their opinions about the Catholic Church on their own blogs. Apparently, to Donohue’s way of thinking, no one has a right to express an opinion about Catholicism or the Catholic Church unless it’s unfailingly supportive of Church doctrine. Now Donohue continues to insist that Edwards fire both Marcotte and McEwan for their “vulgar anti-Chrstian comments”. Sadly, John Edwards doesn’t have the balls to tell Donohue where he can put his demand.

To accuse Donohue of manipulating the truth would imply that he can actually recognize the truth. Unfortunately, the only thing that Donohue recognizes or cares about is the maintenance of his hateful little fiefdom. Yes, ‘tis better to be thought a fool and a knuckle-dragging troglodyte than to be Bill Donohue and remove all doubt.

“No matter what you think about the campaign, I signed on to be a supporter and a tireless employee for them, and if I can’t do the job I was hired to do because Bill Donohue doesn’t have anything better to do with his time than harass me, then I won’t do it,” Marcotte wrote Monday night.

Regardless of what you happen to think of Marcotte’s opinions, and I happen to agree with her, I applaud her for making what she felt is the right decision in resigning. Unfortunately, in doing so, she’s handed Donohue a major victory. Now he can crow about his Divinely-inspired role as a brave defender of the One True Faith. He can portray himself as the defender of Truth, and now he has his first scalp to “prove” it.

It would have been nice if Marcotte could have stood up and told Donohue where he could insert his faux outrage and his demands for her scalp. Of course, I understand her loyalty to John Edwards and her desire to not do anything to damage his Presidential campaign. It’s just too bad that Edwards didn’t have the balls to stand up to Donohue. Edwards knows that Donohue and his Catholic League trolls aren’t going to vote for him anyway, so why is he allowing Donohue to bully him and his employees?

Grow a pair, willya? If this is the kind of moral courage we can expect Edwards to display, then I’m taking my support elsewhere. John Edwards has succeeded only in emboldening and validating Donohue’s hateful media whore persona. He’ll no doubt be all over Fox News Channel, counting coup and revelling in his “victory”. Bill Donohue can kiss my @$$.

Personally, I hope Bill Donohue comes after me. I’d like nothing better than to tell this foaming-at-the-mouth maroon that if he’s a Christian, then I’m the Queen of England.

Memo to John Edwards and the rest of the Democrats running for President: if you want to lead this country, you need at the very least to be able to stand up to bigots like Bill Donohue. If you can’t summon up the metaphorical cojones to do that, then don’t even bother asking for my vote and my support. Grow a pair…AND USE THEM.
