Corrupt, untouchable...and apparently built to stay that way

Washington Post Editorial Board Spits Out Baseless Right-Wing Talking Points On Libby Verdict

Washington Post editorial: Outing a CIA agent, endangering her life and the lives of countless other agents and all Americans is no big deal

Mr. Bush owes Scooter Libby a pardon, and an apology

Bush refuses to say he won’t pardon Libby

Like a lot of Americans, most of the minutiae and day to day sturm und drang of the Scooter Libby trial escaped me. With Libby being found guilty, though, it’s suddenly clicked for me. All of a sudden, I understand how Libby’s conviction illustrates just how craven, self-interested, and corrupt this Administration is…and the worst, most fetid open sewer is the office of Vice President Dick Cheney. Testimony from the trial revealed Cheney to be not only perhaps the most powerful Vice President in this nation’s long history, but also the most mean-spirited, corrupt, venal, and thoroughly partisan as well. It seems clear that Cheney was behind blowing Valerie Plame’s cover…an act that is an unvarnished felony…not that Cheney’s actions will ever land him in a court of law. There can no longer be ANY doubt about the depths that Cheney has sunk to in order to protect his boss…and he’s served the interests of Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader © quite ably and well. Yes, somewhere Niccolo Machiavelli is smiling, because he lives on in Dick Cheney, a man who would roll over his wife and children if further the agenda and interests of this Administration in general and his boss in particular.

The Libby trial has exposed the Bush Administration for the fetid sewer most of us have known it to be all along. Making matters even worse is that prominent Conservatives are now demanding that Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader © pardon Libby. Their arguments, however well-spoken, essentially boil down to one salient point: “He’s one of us.” Yes, Libby’s guilt- as evidenced by his conviction on four of five counts- seems almost beside the point. “He’s one of us. We’re in power. We need to look after our own.” This is perhaps the single most damning piece of evidence demonstrating why Conservatives have NO business running government. They’re more concerned with the welfare of their own than in what’s best for this country- or in respecting the rule of law. Yes, Scooter Libby may now be a convicted felon, but let it never be said that Conservatives don’t place themselves about the very laws the rest of us mere mortals are expected to live by.

There’s an old Chinese insult that goes, “May you live in interesting times.” For those of you who voted for Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader © , it’s about time that you step up and assume responsibility for ushering us into those “interesting times”. Your lack of judgement, your low standards, and your willingness to swallow Right-wing propaganda have landed us in this mess. I’m not saying this simply because I voted for Al Gore in 2000 and then John Kerry in 2004; I’m saying this because it’s the truth.

It’s long been said that we get exactly the quality of leadership we deserve. Clearly, we deserve a lying, immoral reprobate willing to sacrifice our sons and daughters for the sake of his “legacy”. Way to go, y’all! You had the chance to make a difference…and what did you do? You swallowed the propaganda wholesale, without so much as a question. You believed everything that Josef Goebbels Karl Rove and the Swift Boaters fed you. You were willing to believe the absolute worst about Democrats who had served their country ably and well…simply because Republican propagandists pandered to your ignoracne, fears and baser instincts. You couldn’t be bothered to think and consider what your vote might purchase. You couldn’t take the time or expend the effort to evaluate the candidates and realize that Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader © was, is, and will forever remain an empty suit.

If it sounds as if I’m angry, perhaps even bitter, it’s because I am. I’m angry that more than 54 million people were so stupid and undemanding that they reflexively voted for Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader © in 2004, thus condemning untold thousands of our sons and daughters to be killed and maimed in Iraq. I’m angry that so many Americans are so undemanding that they’ll swallow lies and propaganda wholesale…because voting Republican sure is a Hell of a lot easier than thinking. I’m angry because the responsibility for the dead and wounded (and for felons like Scooter LIbby and Dick Cheney) ultimately lies with every last one of you who voted Republican. I do hope you’re proud of yourselves, because this is on you.

WE DESERVE BETTER…not that we’re ever going to get it as long as Americans cast votes that are the result of reaction and emotion instead of sober reflection and consideration….
