Does anyone really think that this was anything more than a setup from the beginning??

Fox Attacks

The Nevada State Democratic Party is pulling out of a controversial presidential debate scheduled for Aug. 14 in Reno and co-hosted by Fox News, according to a letter released late Friday from state party chairman Tom Collins and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev). The letter said Nevada Democrats had entered into the agreement with Fox, despite strong opposition from Democratic activist groups such as MoveOn.org, as a way of finding “new ways to talk to new people.” But Collins and Reid wrote that comments on Thursday by FOX News Chairman and CEO Roger Ailes, when he jokingly compared Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, the junior senator from Illinois, to Osama bin Laden, “went too far,” and prompted Nevada Democrats to end the partnership.

From the time I first heard that Fox News Channel was going to televise a debate featuring Democratic Presidential candidates, something smelled funny. How could this not be a set-up to lure well-meaning Democrats into a trap designed to provide mean-spirited, partisan Republicans with some cheap entertainment (Hey Moe!! Hey Larry!! Check out the circus freaks!!) Did anyone, for even a moment, think that Fox News would give this debate the chance to succeed or fail on it’s own merits that it deserved? Yeah, right….

From another standpoint, anything Fox News Channel could do to buttress it’s claim to peddling “fair and balanced” news would only help to create the mistaken impression that it’s a legitimate news source, and not the chief propaganda voice of the GOP. Fox News Channel is to impartial journalism what Gaylord Perry was to spitballs- cheating for the cause is only a bad thing if you’re caught doing it, right?

I applaud John Edwards for having the balls to stand up immediately and refuse to be a party to this charade. This was never going to be about giving Fox News Channel viewers the opportunity to hear with Democrats have to say. Without a doubt, this was going to be the modern-day equivalent of feeding Christians to the lions. Edwards was at least smart enough to recognize this immediately.

Fox News Vice President David Rhodes is telling news organizations not to get involved in the Nevada Democratic Caucus because of “radical fringe” groups - meaning grassroots Democrats (that would be you) - who objected to Fox’s long history of spreading Republican propaganda at the expense of Democratic leaders.

Gee…the Republican Propaganda Network Fox News Channel spreading Republican propaganda at the expense of Democrats? Say it ain’t so!!

And if the rest of the field had any doubt, FNC Chairman Roger Ailes managed to disabuse them of their delusions with his somewhat-less-than-charitable remarks about Sen. Barack Obama (R-IL):

And it is true that Barack Obama is on the move. I don’t know if it’s true that President Bush called Musharraf and said, ‘Why can’t we catch this guy?’

This from the chairman of the network that frequent refers to Obama as “Hussein Obama”? A man who sees humor in associating a Presidential candidate, however tnagentially, with the worlds’s most wanted terrorist and mass murderer? Roger Ailes has no more interest in presenting Fox News Channel viewers with a “fair and balanced” view of Democratic Presidential candidates than he does of doing the same with child molesters…and how many of these knuckle-dragging troglodytes will tell you that there’s no difference between the two groups?

Good riddance. Fox News Channel should stick to what it does best- dispensing inflammatory and thinly-veiled Right-wing propaganda to the drooling Right-wing masses- and Democrats should stay as far away as they possibly can. Nothing good will come of ANY debate sponsored and host by Roger Ailes’ Republican Propaganda Network, and Democrats should expend their energies trying to convince America why Republican ideology is corrupt and morally bankrupt.

FNC and it’s acolytes can whine all they want, but this “debate” was never about Democrats. It was always about propaganda, and doing whatever is necessary to make themselves appear to be a “legitimate” news organization. Nice try, y’all….
