Newt Gingrich: hate him for the hypocrisy, love him for the unabashed skirt-chasing

Newt Gingrich, Adulterer

Do any of these people believe at all in what they preach? I mean, seriously. Now adultery isn’t a problem for the religious right. Not to mention, Gingrich is divorced - twice - and now on his THIRD wife. And he asked his first wife to sign divorce papers while she was recovering from cancer surgery. Seriously, do Christan conservatives believe in anything at all? Because they sure put on a great act of trying to force their views on the rest of us, while not living by the same values themselves.

I could riff at length over the outrage that constitutes the depths of Newt Gingrich’s hypocrisy. I could; but it would be redundant. There’s little doubt that Gingirch is more than willing to hold Democratic politicians to standards that he would never DREAM of holding himself or his fellow Republicans to. This isn’t hypocrisy in his mind; it’s merely the political cost of doing business. During l’affaire Lewinsky, Gingrich and his fellow hypocrites had Bill Clinton by the short hairs (pun intended). They were willing to drag Clinton and this country through the mud, all for the sake of scoring political points and maybe, just maybe, bringing down a President they despised. Of course, Clinton’s behavior provided the rope that Republicans almost hung him with, but if having an extramarital affair was a crime, half of Congress would be disqualified. Newt Gingrich is hardly the poster boy for marital fidelity.

I find it laughable that Newt Gingrich is suddenly the darling of the GOP’s Evangelical wing. Jerry Falwell is embracing Gingrich as a true, God-fearing Christian, qualified to be President because he loves Jesus and America. The fact that Gingrich has the morals of a snake seems lost on Falwell and the Religious Right. Then again, hypocrisy has always been a hallmark of the Rabid Right, whose unofficial motto seems to be: “Whatever it takes.”

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Republican Newt Gingrich, who led the U.S. House of Representatives as it prepared to impeach Bill Clinton in a sex-and-perjury scandal, acknowledged in an interview released on Friday that he was having an affair at the time.

Gingrich, a potential 2008 presidential candidate, was asked by James Dobson of the conservative Christian group Focus on the Family, whether he was engaged in an extramarital affair when former President Clinton was involved with White House intern Monica Lewinsky.

“The honest answer is ‘yes,’” Gingrich said in an interview released on the group’s Web site. “But it’s not related to what happened.”

Of course not. How could it be? Gingrich is a faithful Conservative, and Clinton is an evil, intern-buggering Liberal. Gingrich was DUTY-BOUND to stand up for traditional American values and demand the head (the one one his shoulders) of President Clinton. This is why Gingirch has had only three wives…well, that and he’s not Mormon, I suppose.

When your hear Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, James Dobson, or some other uber-righteous troll bleating at length about the virtues of Religious Conservatives like Newt Gingrich, it might be difficult for you to control your gag reflex. I know it is for me. If these people are the moral arbiters of American politics, then I’m the Queen of England.

Newt Gingrich is a (&^%$#@ hypocrite, and those Right-wing “values voters” who support him are no better. Ultimately, it’s all about power and control, and if Social Conservatives have to resort to using Jesus Christ as the face of their “revolution”, then so be it. If the Rabid Right’s “values voters” represents the pinnacle of Christian values, then we really are screwed. You don’t have to go far to witness their handiwork. Since 2001, we’ve engaged in a political jihad of our own in Iraq, we’ve seen a gradual, inexorable erosion of our civil rights, and we’ve seen this Administration ignore the suffering in New Orleas and the Gulf Coast while it pours millions into Iraq. Nice work, eh?

STILL GLAD YOU VOTED REPUBLICAN??
