North Dakota sets official snow angel record
BISMARCK, N.D. ‚Äö√Ñ√Æ Legislators waved their arms in a snow-angel salute Wednesday to celebrate North Dakota recapturing a world record for those whimsical works of winter. Guinness World Records has confirmed that the state holds the world record for the most snow angels made simultaneously in one place, said Marilyn Snyder, the education curator for the State Historical Society of North Dakota. That’s 8,962 snow angels, created Feb. 17 by people waving their arms while lying in the snow covering the Capitol grounds.
You know that legislators have far too much time on their hands when they’re laying in the snow making snow angels. ‘Course this is North Dakota we’re talking about, which means that the state’s legislature probably solved all of their state’s pressing problems in about 4 hours. You can do this when you live in North Dakota, which is home to about 12 people. This would mean that legislators have spent the rest of the legislative session downloading porn and playing drinking games and strip poker. Yeah, it’s not easy being an elected official in North Dakota, don’tchaknow??
If you’ve ever been in Bismarck, ND, during the winter, you’ll understand the appeal of this. Even though it’s the state capitol, it’s not like Bismarck offers a lot in the way of entertainment options. If you don’t own a snowmobile, you’re pretty much stuck with old Sopranos reruns or American Idol until the snow melts.
Yes, this is what passes for entertainment in North Dakota, y’all. I suppose there are those of you out there who would defend North Dakota by accusing me of being jealous because we can’t make snow angels here on the Texas Gulf Coast. Yeah, right.
8,962 snow angels? Man, I would have loved to have the Jack Daniels concession for that one….
