Another dispatch from DogWorld

This is something of an unusual morning. She Who Endures My Myriad Eccentricities © and her sisters are on a Caribbean cruise with their father (to celebrate his 75th birthday). Since they’re somewhere in the Gulf of Mexico, she’s incommunicado. For the first time in the almost eight years that we’ve been together, we won’t be speaking to one another. Even with all of the business traveling I’ve done, and even with my extended assignment in Miami a couple years ago, we’ve spoken every single day since we met. If one of us has been out of town, we’ve spoken by phone several times a day. It’s just what we do.

She Who Endures My Myriad Eccentricities © called me yesterday afternoon as the boat was leaving the port in Galveston, and unless she’s able to call me from Cozumel, it will be Monday before I hear from her. She’ll be fine, of course, as will I, but it just feels strange. You get used to a certain rhythm and presence in your life, and when that’s not there, it just feels…strange. So, here I am, hanging out at the luxurious and well-appointed TPRS World Headquarters on a Friday morning, lingering over CNN and a cup of coffee. Ah…life is good, no??

The good news is that I also took the same five days off work, mostly so I could hang out with the dogs. I need a break from work. I’m mentally exhausted, and I’m beginning to feel a lot like a hamster on an exercise wheel. I’m working hard, and I’m getting a lot done, but I’m not getting anywhere. With She Who Endures My Myriad Eccentricities © being away for a few days, it seemed like a good time for me to take some time to decompress. I’m the kind of person who enjoys solitude, and being home alone doesn’t bother me- in fact, I rather enjoy it. I have the opportunity to read, work around the house…or lay on the couch in my underwear while I watch the Stanley Cup playoffs (Doubleheader tonight!! WOOHOO!!!)

Don’t get me wrong, though. I miss having She Who Endures My Myriad Eccentricities © around. It sure is quiet around here…except for the dogs, of course. Now I have three large dogs competing for my attention…things could be worse. :O)
