Blaming the Victims … Because They’re Total Wusses
As NRO’s designated chickenhawk, let me be the one to ask: Where was the spirit of self-defense here? Setting aside the ludicrous campus ban on licensed conceals, why didn’t anyone rush the guy? It’s not like this was Rambo, hosing the place down with automatic weapons. He had two handguns for goodness’ sake‚Äö√Ñ√Æone of them reportedly a .22.
At the very least, count the shots and jump him reloading or changing hands. Better yet, just jump him. Handguns aren’t very accurate, even at close range. I shoot mine all the time at the range, and I still can’t hit squat. I doubt this guy was any better than I am. And even if hit, a .22 needs to find something important to do real damage‚Äö√Ñ√Æyour chances aren’t bad.
Yes, yes, I know it’s easy to say these things: but didn’t the heroes of Flight 93 teach us anything? As the cliche goes‚Äö√Ñ√Æand like most cliches. It’s true‚Äö√Ñ√Ænone of us knows what he’d do in a dire situation like that. I hope, however, that if I thought I was going to die anyway, I’d at least take a run at the guy.
“Douchebag” is not a term of endearment I freely or lightly employ. Then again, in the case of John Derbyshire, “DUMB@$$” seems so horribly inadequate. Indeed, Derbyshire has transcended the realm of a mere DUMB@$$ AWARD wiener…and he makes Michelle Malkin and Ann Coulter look like Catholic virgin schoolgirls by comparison.
Instead of doing the reasonable thing by extending condolences to those impacted by Monday’s massacre at Virginia Tech, Derbyshire decided to call out the victims for lacking “the spirit of self-defense”. Yes, I suppose Derbyshire might qualify for a pass here- he is, after all, a DUMB@$$ and a douchebag- but he compounded his colossal insensitivity by second-guessing those killed and wounded by Cho Seung-Hui’s murderous rampage.

You’ve probably read the NRO’s very own John Derbyshire’s insane rant against the victims of the VT shooting. In his twisted mind he thought his logic was sound and repeated that he wasn’t criticizing the students, but merely raising a point of conversation. Even J-Pod criticized him‚Äö√Ѭ∂I was on the Alan Colmes radio show a few days ago and had the chance to let him know how I really feel. I laughed at him when he told me to shut up because it reminded me of O’Reilly‚Äö√Ѭ∂
Amato: So Mr. Derbyshire, you are a coward. And if I saw you— face to face—I would call you a coward because you are.
Colmes: You care to respond?
Debyshire: Ah, no actually‚Äö√Ñ√¨I don’t respond to abuse. I get a lot of abuse‚Äö√Ѭ∂.
Amato: That’s abuse? That’s just fact.
It’s not very often I care about ANYTHING that transpires on talk radio, but for this I’d like to buy John Amato a beer or six. That Derbyshire had no rejoinder other than “shut up” only demonstrates what a clueless, morally bankrupt fool Derbyshire truly is. Calling John Derbyshire a DUMB@$$ doesn’t begin to do justice to the depths of his depravity and insensitivity.
There’s time for rational debate, but he’s not a rational human being and he deserved to be treated accordingly. He thought I was abusing him for pointing out the obvious. He abused the students by his vicious words. Some things just need to be said.
Why Derbyshire even continues to have a gig is beyond me…then again, this is the National Review we’re talking about here- home of clueless, meanspirited Conservatives who think they know it all and have all of the answers. At least he owns up to being a Chickenhawk, because it’s not like any reasonable person would use the words “courage” and “John Derbyshire” in the same sentence.
