McCain Was Talking About the Second Life Version of Iraq
Remember when WALNUTS! made the bizarre and utterly fictional claim that Baghdad was so safe it was like Greenwich Village when Rudy was dictator? CNN reporter Michael Ware is actually in Baghdad trying not to get blown up every day, and he quickly collected some info from U.S. military commanders in Iraq who found McCain’s claims absolutely hilarious. In retaliation, McCain’s hired goons fed a fake outrage to Drudge Report, claiming that Ware “heckled” McCain when the sociopathic GOP non-front-runner made a stunt visit to Baghdad. Ware and all the other reporters who were actually there say this is nonsense.
So whaddya do when you’re desperately chasing the Presidency, a dream that seems just out of reach and appears likely to remain so? Well, if you’re John McCain, you’ve latched onto the war in Iraq as the issue that will rescue your flagging hopes. Perhaps if you can somehow manage to convince enough of the American sheeple that we’re not getting the “good news” from Iraq your fundraising will pickup.
Hey, America…only SIX American soldiers were killed by IEDs Today!!
Of course, McCain’s “good news” tour involved a stroll through a Baghdad market on Sunday accompanied by an unprecedented security entourage. If you can discount the helicopters, the armored vehicles, and the heavily armed escorts, and the flak jacket McCain was wearing, it was just like any other Sunday stroll through a local market. You see, there really IS “good news” coming out of Iraq.
When CNN’s Michael Ware (no one’s buttoned-down correspondent, he) took McCain to task for his out of touch assertions and his stunt visit to Iraq, McCain’s staff retaliated by feeding a fake story to Matt Drudge, claiming Ware had mercilessly and unprofessionally heckled McCain…not that McCain didn’t richly deserve to be heckled. Not surprisingly, it appears that nothing of the sort actually happened.
Shocked! Shocked I am that a Republican presidential candidate would knowingly peddle lies and propaganda!!
If McCain’s Magical Mystery Tour over the weekend is any indication, the man will clearly do or say anything that he thinks will get him elected. There was a time when I actually had managed to convince myself that I respected him for his pragmatism and ability to deal with issues on their merits and not based on their political weight. Jeebus, what in the Hell was I thinking??
