Hey, don't you know there's a war on?? We have a legacy to protect....

New Orleans marchers blast slow Katrina recovery

NEW ORLEANS ‚Äö√Ñ√Æ The Rev. Jesse Jackson and Mayor Ray Nagin led hundreds of marchers today to the crumbling houses that still dominate the Lower 9th Ward to draw attention to the area’s slow recovery from Hurricane Katrina. Jackson said the Bush administration and much of the nation had largely forgotten the working class and mostly black hurricane victims in the Lower 9th, while areas that draw tourists and more affluent sections recover more quickly…. “The waters have subsided, but the abandonment continues. The president did not mention Katrina in his last State of the Union address,” Jackson said. While the Saints, the city’s professional football team, and Mardi Gras have returned, “the people are not back,” he said. The mayor, whose leadership since the storm has been questioned by many residents, indicated that problems with New Orleans’ recovery stem from the slow flow of government aid.

Jeebus…you think these loons would’ve figgered it out by now. Hurricane Katrina is SO 2005. New Orleans? Please…we’re more concerned with what’s going to happen to Sanjaya Malakar now that he’s been booted off American Idol. (Poor kid…whatever is he going to do??)

The federal government had moved on, so why shouldn’t these folks? Oh, right…some of them LIVE in New Orleans. Silly me; and here I’d been thinking they just shut the place down and sent the few remaining souls to Iraq. Hey, they were going to need jobs , anyway….

Of course, we probably should be so quick to give up on King George the Worst © . This after all, is the same President who stood in Jackson Square and declared that “We will do what it takes”. The beautiful thing about the speech is that he meant every word of it…until the klieg lights and the cameras were turned off and he could once again focus on his Excellent Adventure in Iraq © unmolested once again.

Across the Gulf Coast, among people who have lost much and suffered much and given to the limit of their power, we are seeing that same spirit: a core of strength that survives all hurt, a faith in God no storm can take away and a powerful American determination to clear the ruins and build better than before.

Tonight so many victims of the hurricane and the flood are far from home and friends and familiar things. You need to know that our whole nation cares about you, and in the journey ahead you are not alone. To all who carry a burden of loss, I extend the deepest sympathy of our country.

To every person who has served and sacrificed in this emergency, I offer the gratitude of our country. And tonight I also offer this pledge of the American people: Throughout the area hit by the hurricane, we will do what it takes. We will stay as long as it takes to help citizens rebuild their communities and their lives. And all who question the future of the Crescent City need to know: There is no way to imagine America without New Orleans, and this great city will rise again.

Just as soon as we achieve our glorious and well-deserved victory in Iraq….

Those words rang hollow on 9.14.05, and they’re even more hollow today. After more than a year and a half of ineptitude, inefficiency, and fading attention spans, New Orleans and the Gulf Coast are still a mess.

BUT WE’RE SURE KICKING ASS IN IRAQ, AREN’T WE??

“This march is important because it basically sends a message to the nation that people in New Orleans are still here,” he said. “We’re still fighting for our land. We’re fighting for our recovery. We want the resources to flow much faster.”

A few hundred people walking with Jackson and Nagin marched about 10 abreast over the Claiborne Avenue bridge that arcs into the Lower 9th, stopping near the site of the levee breach that allowed in the storm surge flood that destroyed homes and took lives there in August 2005.

Resident Gail Woods, 58, said only two weeks ago that huge chunks of what were once neighborhood homes were finally removed from her front-yard fence, where they had been deposited by the flood. She said she made repeated calls to city, state and federal officials before a debris-removal team finally showed up.

“I felt I should come out and show support, because we want to be here,” said Woods, who was raised in the neighborhood. “We’re going to be here. I love the Lower 9.”

Of course, no reasonable person could claim to be surprised by the federal government’s tepid and inept response to the tragedy of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. New Orleans, in particular, is a largely poor and African-American city. These folks don’t donate to Republicans and the generally don’t vote Republican. So why, then, should the federal government overextend itself assisting a collection of no-account, libtard ingrates who are of no use to them, anyway?

Interesting, isn’t it? We can pour billions of dollars and thousands of American lives to conduct an unwinnable quagmire of a war, but assisting AMERICANS legitimately in need of help can pretty much go (&^% themselves. Hey, have you forgotten that we’ve got a war to pay for and a legacy to protect? We’re talking about the judgement of history here. Why should we be worrying about a bunch of no-account welfare jockeys who don’t even care enough to vote Republican?

Compassionate Conservative, my ass….

Oh, and by the way…guess how much coverage this march got in the mainstream media? Well, if you guessed virtually none, you wouldn’t be far wrong. After all, New Orleans and Hurricane Katrina is SO 2005…and besides, don’t you know that there’s a war going on that has to be properly propagandized for?

Face it, y’all; you’re on your own. New Orleans has been left to die, primarily because of the federal government’s lack of compassion and competence and the Mainstream Media’s deficient attention span. And, hey…have you forgotten that Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader © has his war on??
