I realize the law is an ass, but....

Buddy the donkey keeps it cool in Dallas courtroom

DALLAS — The first witness in a lawsuit today between two neighbors was a real ass. Buddy the donkey walked to the bench and stared at the jury, the picture of a gentle, well-mannered creature and not the loud, aggressive animal he had been accused of being. The donkey was at the center of a dispute between oilman John Cantrell and attorney Gregory Shamoun that began after Cantrell complained about a storage shed Shamoun was building in his backyard in Dallas.

Man, the next thing you know, someone will be trying to register Buddy as a Republican. I’d like to think that there was a good reason for having a donkey in a courtroom, but what I really want to know is how they went about swearing him in…and who translated. I can think of a few asses who might fill the bill ( a couple of ex-girlfriends, perhaps, but they’re probably still back in Oregon).

Here in Texas, just may be blind, but it can smell awful, and it apparently has a very limited diet and vocabulary. And what says “I’m a rich Texas dickweed with far more money than tolerance and common sense” than an oilman and a lawyer being (not so neighborly) neighbors.

Thankfully, it appears the dispute was settle before things went nuclear, but you have to think that the entertainment value would have been WAY higher if a judge had been needed to render a legally-binding decision. Hmm…I wonder what kind of legal standing a donkey has? Never mind who has to clean up the courtroom after Buddy had his day in court?
