Once a DUMB@$$...always John McCain

Craig Crawford’s Trail Mix: McCain Losing with Honor

McCain Discusses Iraq Market Visit: Arizona Senator Speaks Exclusively With Correspondent Scott Pelley

McCain says he misspoke in upbeat Baghdad comments

If presidential campaigns had such a thing as an honorable discharge, Sen. John McCain could get one. The Arizona Republican’s White House bid has gone from bad to worse with this week’s news that he lags well behind leading candidates in both parties for the almighty dollar. McCain’s aides say that he inexplicably held only two fundraisers in the first two months of 2007. No wonder that his first-quarter earnings put him at $12.5 million in contributions, compared with $15 million for former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani and $20 million for former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney. In short order, McCain has gone from presumed front-runner to enduring rumors that he might not even stay in the race. If he dropped out, McCain can always blame his support for the unpopular Iraq war ‚Äö√Ñ√Æ highlighted by his recent trip to the region ‚Äö√Ñ√Æ and exit with dignity.

In the four-plus years of Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader’s © Excellent Advernture and Glorious War of Liberation and Freedom in Iraq, a lot of Right-wing bulls—t has been slung to the effect that “victory” is “just around the corner”. Why, if only the cut-and-run libtard defeatocrats would stop trying to deny our troops what they need to protect us from the evil, freedom-hating terrorists, we could win this war. (Cue the “If you don’t fund my failure of a war, then you can just damn take the blame for it’s failure….” argument in 3…2…1….)

Truly, there have been few more comical spectacles coming out of Iraq than Sen. Braveheart strolling through the Shorja market without a care in the world- assuming, of course, you could ignore the flak jacket, the helicopters, hovering overhead, the armed troops, and the armored Humvees shadowing his empty step.

And then there’s the tragic story of the 21 market workers who were killed by insurgents THE DAY AFTER Senator Braveheart’s leisurely stroll through Shorja. You don’t think anyone was making a statement there, do you?? Of course, to Senator Braveheart’s way of thinking, he’s got a Presidential campaign to run…and those were “only” Iraqis who were murdered. It’s not like any Americans died or anything, right??

(CBS) Presidential candidate Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., says he misspoke in comments he made about security in Baghdad and acknowledged that heavily armed troops and helicopter gunships accompanied him when he visited a market there.

McCain make the comment to 60 Minutes correspondent Scott Pelley in his first interview since the visit. Pelley’s report will include the only video camera footage of McCain’s market visit.

Gee, ya think??? Of course it’s not like McCain compared the Shorja market to the Bargersville, IN flea market. No, he left that bit of Right-wing hyperbole to fellow Chickenhawk and fellow DUMB@$$ AWARD weiner Rep. Mike Pence (R-Cloud Cuckoo Land). Of course, McCain did opine that he was certain that there were neighborhoods in Baghdad where one could safely stroll through as if one was in Old Town Scottsdale.

In two interviews before the Army took McCain and 60 Minutes on the heavily guarded visit to the al-Shorja market last Sunday, the senator said security had improved in Iraq. Upon his return, he also told a news conference he had just come back from a neighborhood one could walk around in freely.

Well, sure…he DID walk around freely, courtesy of a security umbrella that would have made Josef Stalin proud. Or did Senator Braveheart just that the soldier, the Humvees, and the helicopters were just along for the walk because they needed the exercise? And that the flak jacket was just the latest Iraqi fashion trend.

Yeah, those wacky Iraqis…they always have been on the cutting edge of fashion, no??

The remarks made headlines and he now regrets saying them. “Of course I am going to misspeak and I’ve done it on numerous occasions and I probably will do it in the future,” says McCain. “I regret that when I divert attention to something I said from my message, but you know, that’s just life,” he tells Pelley, adding, “I’m happy, frankly, with the way I operate, otherwise it would be a lot less fun.”

Translation: “Unfortunately, I’m a DUMB@$$, I know I’m a DUMB@$$, and I understand that the first step to getting help is to admit that you’re a DUMB@$$….”

(Hmm…someone really ought to let Sen. Braveheart know that there’s no known cure for being a DUMB@$$. It’s sort of being left-handed; you either are or you aren’t.)

“….I now recognize that my being a DUMB@$$ has allowed me to ignore the blindingly obvious. Silly me; I thought EVERYONE went for a Sunday stroll through the market with a security presence worthy of Genghis Khan.”

And you wonder why Sen. Braveheart isn’t able to attract campaign donations? Hmm…d’ya think it might be because of the man’s uncanny ability to ignore reality and make $#!& up as he goes?

Yep; look closely, kids…’cuz here be a DUMB@$$…and no amount of apple-polishing by the Mainstream Media is going to pretty up this piggie….
