War is always an option to those who've never experienced it

Kristol: Proper Response To Iran’s Kidnapping Of Soldiers Would Have Been Military Strikes

Fox News pundit Bill Kristol has been an unceasing proponent of war with Iran. In the past year, Kristol has repeatedly beat the war drums, stating for example that Bush “could easily build support” for an Iran attack “at the beginning of 2008.” He has also said: “I think we could be in a military confrontation with Iran much sooner than people expect.”….This morning, Kristol again promoted the concept of war with Iran. He said Iran’s kidnapping of the 15 British soldiers has brought the world closer to another war. “We came closer to war with Iran this week,” Kristol said, complaining that the U.S. was “very passive.” Juan Williams then questioned, “Well, what was the alternative? To go in and strike them while the hostages were there?” Kristol said “yes.”

Interesting, isn’t it, how someone whose closest brush with combat mostly likely has been a snowball fight can so blithely and offhandedly advocate for war? Of course, it’s a war neither former DUMB@$$ AWARD wiener Bill Kristol nor any of his rich, well-heeled friends and family will see war on anything but the Fox News Channel, so it’s not as if anyone “important” will be doing the fighting and dying.

Why does war have to be the first, best, and only option? Of course, if other people’s children will be doing the fighting and dying, I suppose it’s easy to think of war as an abstract concept- “foreign policy other means”, as it were. The problem here, of course, is that war is hardly an abstract concept. The decision to go war automatically condemns some of those who fight it to death…and a war with Iran would of necessity be an ugly, messy, and exceedingly bloody affair. To so blithely advocate that military action against Iran is a just, correct, and reasonable option only demonstrates how out of touch Far-Right ideologues like Kristol are. They’re more than happy to sacrifice other people’s children in pursuit of their megalomaniacal agenda…which is just about the most ignorant and insensitive attitude imaginable. These are not pawns to be moved about on a geoplotical chess board; these are flesh-and-blood human being with hopes and dreams and families and loved ones. Yes, they may be soldiers, but they certain did not enlist with the idea that their lives would be forfeit if neoConservative nitwits like Bill Kristol deemed it a cost of doing business.

WE DESERVE BETTER. And so do our men and women in uniform, who lives should be treated and handled with care- NOT sacrificed to satiate Bill Kristol’s blood lust and desire for American global hegemony.
