ABC News Exclusive: The Secret War Against Iran
A Pakistani tribal militant group responsible for a series of deadly guerrilla raids inside Iran has been secretly encouraged and advised by American officials since 2005, U.S. and Pakistani intelligence sources tell ABC News. The group, called Jundullah, is made up of members of the Baluchi tribe and operates out of the Baluchistan province in Pakistan, just across the border from Iran. It has taken responsibility for the deaths and kidnappings of more than a dozen Iranian soldiers and officials.
I suppose it was just a matter of time before something like this came to light. Having failed in their efforts to convince the American sheeple that war with Iran would be WAY cool, the Bushies and their propaganda machine have been looking for just the right angle to justify bombing Tehran. Yeah, the Iranians taking British sailors captive might provide a reasonably decent pretext for a first strike against Iran, but it just lacks that “oomph”, that undeniable moral justification for taking out Mullahland.
When you consider that we already have close to 150,000 American troops right next door in Iraq, why not go to war with Iran? To the Bushies, it’s like a “two-fer”- and besides, once you’ve engaged in one illegal war of aggression, what’s one more? And Lord knows that there’s nothing like a good, flag-waving, patriotic, AmeriKKKa uber Alles war to make the sheeple forget things like the economy and health care, no??
U.S. officials say the U.S. relationship with Jundullah is arranged so that the U.S. provides no funding to the group, which would require an official presidential order or “finding” as well as congressional oversight.
Tribal sources tell ABC News that money for Jundullah is funneled to its youthful leader, Abd el Malik Regi, through Iranian exiles who have connections with European and Gulf states.
Jundullah has produced its own videos showing Iranian soldiers and border guards it says it has captured and brought back to Pakistan.
The leader, Regi, claims to have personally executed some of the Iranians.
“He used to fight with the Taliban. He’s part drug smuggler, part Taliban, part Sunni activist,” said Alexis Debat, a senior fellow on counterterrorism at the Nixon Center and an ABC News consultant who recently met with Pakistani officials and tribal members.
“Regi is essentially commanding a force of several hundred guerrilla fighters that stage attacks across the border into Iran on Iranian military officers, Iranian intelligence officers, kidnapping them, executing them on camera,” Debat said.
This is typical “the enemy of my enemy is my friend” stuff, and given the pragmatic nature of BushWorld ideology, we shouldn’t be surprised. We bombed the @#!& out of them in Afghanistan, but if former Taliban fighters are willing to fight our proxy war against Iran…well, say hello to our new best friend!! Of course, it’s not as if the US is the only party in this war-with-Iran-in-all-but-name. Iran has been stirring things up behind the scenes in Iraq to greater or lesser degrees, and I would hazard a guess that there are more then a few Americans who owe their untimely demise to Iranian-supplied weapons, material, and support. Sorry, guys, but you can’t play a game of geopolitical chess without pawns.
I’m not necessarily certain that we’re heading for an inevitable and open military conflict with Iran, but neither would I be surprised if that happens. If war with Iran does become a reality, you can bet there will be a lot of neoCons in the White House with big smiles on their faces. Right; they’re not going to be the ones fighting and dying. The sons and daughters of other people will be.
