President Bush has repeatedly argued that the United States needs to “eliminate terrorist threats abroad, so we do not have to face them here at home.”…. Last night on Hannity and Colmes, right-wing pundit Dick Morris also claimed that we need to keep U.S. troops in Iraq so that terrorists don’t come to the United States. But he argued that we need to put “Americans right within their [terrorists’] arms’ reach” so that they have the opportunity to “kill Americans” there. He added that therefore, “they don’t have to come to Wall Street to kill Americans. They don’t have to knock down the Trade Center. They can do it around the corner, and convenience is a big factor when you’re a terrorist.”
I’m absolutely dumbstruck that someone in the public eye could in all seriousness say something so blindingly stupid. What amazes even more is that no one in the mainstream media has even made a peep about Morris’ comments. You have to know that if a Democrat has said something so mind-numbingly stupid and cynical the hue and cry would be heard from here to Tuesday…and justifiably so.
Then again, I imagine that Morris doesn’t have a son or daughter in Iraq, so the life of an American soldier or Marine is purely an abstract concept to him. The lives of our sons and daughters aren’t quarters to be fed into some sort of slot machine designed to keep terrorists occupied overseas. These lives, while perhaps not of any meaning to Morris, do mean a great deal to some. If Morris truly believes that feeding our sons and daughters to the beast to keep it off our own shores is worthwhile trade to be making, perhaps he could volunteer to go to Iraq himself. It’s not like he has anything of value to offer here.
Jeebus, what a DUMB@$$. And why isn’t anyone in the mainstream media addressing this idiocy. Oh, right; it was on Fox News Channel…which makes it legitimate news. Whatever….
