The death knell of journalistic impartiality...same as it never was

The Simpsons v. the media

Friends, the press and the government are in bed together in an embrace so intimate and wrong, they could spoon on a twin mattress and still have room for Ted Koppel. Journalists used to questions the reasons for war and expose abuse of power. Now, like toothless babies, they suckle on the sugary teat of misinformation and poop it into the diaper we call the 6:00 News. Demand more of your government. Demand more of your press.

Time was when we might have been able to count on the Mainstream Media to keep us informed about what was happening in the world of politics. Of course, there are those of us who might like to delude ourselves into thinking that the American press is an ideological blank slate, devoted to the news regardless of the political implications. Yeah, right; here in the REAL world, news and politics have always made for strange bedfellows.

It’s become fashionable for those on the Right to whine about “The Liberal Media”, and while that propaganda point has become the accepted truth for too many, no one has ever offered any proof. The canard that the Mainstream Media is a cabal of Left-wing Libtards is older than Robert Byrd and just as wacky and out of touch with reality. Given that all Mainstream Media outlets are owned by large (and historically Conservative) corporations, the “Liberal Media” canard is about as accurate and meaningful as anything that crosses the lips of Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader © . The Mainstream Media exists, whether openly or implicitly, to advance the interests of Right-wing Conservatives. If that comes as news, you simply haven’t been paying attention.

IF the Mainstream Media really leaned so far to the Left, don’t you think we’d have heard about Rush Limbaugh’s ‘Barack The Magic Negro’ farce, John McCain’s latest ignorant, racist utterance, or why even the Smithsonian isn’t immune to caving into to pressure to appease the Bush Administration- even if it means watering down science and truth?

Journalism, while it’s had some notable moments throughout our history, has never been about the truth. It’s been about who controls and defines the truth. This is how people like Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader © come to power, and it’s how they maintain power once they get there. When you control the flow and the ideological slants of news and information, you will in the long run control government and the power that flows from such control.

Same as it ever was….
