Bush Nominates Homophobic Surgeon General Who Wants To Cure Gays
Holsinger, others spoke out against “radical homosexual/lesbian lobby”
Holsinger’s nomination to be “America’s doctor” is troubling. He has a long history of prejudice toward gays and lesbians…. Despite this history, Holsinger-supporter Kentucky Gov. Ernie Fletcher (R) inexplicably insists, “Anyone who knows Jim Holsinger knows that he’s not an individual given to prejudice.”
If there has ever been a time over the past six-plus years that any of y’all have doubted that Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader © seeks out appointees who reflect his intolerant, theocratic, dominionist world view, well here’s your chance to welcome yourself back to reality. All you really have to do is to look at The Worst President EVER’s © nominee for Surgeon General.
You might be forgiven for thinking that the job of being the nation’s top doctor might be a position reasonably free of rampant ideology. Yeah, right…. NOTHING in this Administration is beyond ideological considerations. Say what you will, but King George the Worst © and his neoConservative thugs have thoroughly infiltrated virtually all levels of government with a cabal of like-minded, intolerant, dominionist theocrats. Holsinger is merely the most recent (and one of the most egregious) and latest example of the parade of DUMB@$$ AWARD wieners currently serving under King George the Worst © .
‚Äö√Ñ√¨ Holsinger founded Hope Springs Community Church, which “ministers to people who no longer wish to be gay or lesbian.” Holsinger said that he sees homosexuality as “an issue not of orientation but of lifestyle.” [Lexington Herald-Leader, 6/1/07]
‚Äö√Ñ√¨ In serving on the United Methodist Judicial Council ‚Äö√Ñ√Æ the “court” that resolves “disputes involving church doctrine and policies in the nation’s second-largest Protestant denomination” ‚Äö√Ñ√Æ Holsinger “opposed a decision to allow a practicing lesbian to be an associate pastor, and he supported a pastor who would not permit an openly gay man to join the church.” [Lexington Herald-Leader, 6/1/07]
‚Äö√Ñ√¨ In the early 1990s, Holsinger resigned from the United Methodist Church’s Committee to Study Homosexuality “because he believed the committee ‚Äö√Ñ√≤would follow liberal lines.’” He also warned “that acceptance of homosexuality would drive away millions of churchgoers.” [Arkansas Democrat Gazette, 5/26/07; Time, 6/24/91]
Apparently, the practice of medicine is insufficient entertainment for Holsinger. For giggles, he also engages in activities that allow him to force his narrow, ignorant fears and prejudices on those who happen not to think, act, or believe as he does. (And in my spare time, I also like to subjugate women and children to the almighty will of God.)
What would Jesus do? Well, I’m not a doctor, but I’m guessing it would probably involve leeches and holy water…and perhaps the shooting of abortionists. Just keep in mind, that this government is designed to work for those who voted for and support Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader © …which means that if you’re not a born-again, Evangelical Republican, you’re flat out of luck. Welcome to government by, of, and exclusively for the Chosen. Democrats need not apply, but DUMB@$$E$ can apparently go to the front of the line.
