Another DUMB@$$ AWARD wiener

Parents upset over ‘censored’ message in yearbook

DUMB@$$ AWARD wiener #599: Carole Altman

GREENWOOD VILLAGE ‚Äö√Ñ√¨ When Carole Altman opened her daughter’s yearbook from Belleview Elementary, she expected to see her message congratulating her daughter on completing the 5th grade. What she did not see is what angered her…. “What has been done here, in my opinion, is un-American,” Altman said. The Parent-Teacher Community Organization at Belleview Elementary established a yearbook committee. The committee sent a letter to parents asking them to pay $5 to publish a message to congratulate their students. The letter stated the message will include “all of your wonderful words.”…. Altman and her husband submitted this message: “So proud of you Remy for achieving fantastic grades, participating in so many wonderful after school activities and surviving so many of the Belleview teachers’ liberal teachings. You are what you believe you can be. Aim high, always. Love, Mom & Dad.”

Granted, I may not be an expert in this field, but it seems to me that the definition of successful parenting is NOT teaching the same sort of ignorance, prejudice, hatred, fear, and intellectual inflexibility that you happen to practice. Jeebus, people…whatever happened to helping your children become intellectual, creative, independently-thinking souls capable of determining for themselves what they believe? If they turn out to be the same sort of knuckle-dragging troglodyte that you are…well, you certainly would have something to be proud of, no? Then again, indoctrination IS a whole lot easier…and no doubt a whole lot more fun.

If you want to know why this country is as (&^%$# up as it currently is, you’d need look no further than Carole Altman, who apparently is to critical, independent thinking what Josef Mengele was to the Hippocratic Oath. Yes, there’s nothing quite like endeavoring to instill your own ignorance and intolerance in the minds of your progeny, thus ensuring that future generations learn the value of reacting instead of wasting valuable time and energy thinking rationally and critically. Why should one be forced to exercise one’s brain cells when it’s far easier- and WAY more fun- to simply scream, “BURN THE WITCH!!!”?

Why, indeed….

“What was taken out was surviving the liberal teachings,” Altman said.

She wanted her daughter, years from now, to appreciate how well she did in school even though Altman felt teachers were biased.

“Despite all the liberal teachings and so forth, she’s come out with a good education,” said Altman.

Yeah, and despite your ignorance and intolerance, she’s somehow managed to graduate from high school. Go figure. ‘Course, she’ll quite likely grow up to be every bit as ignorant and intellectually inflexible as you are. After all, that’s what you’ve modelled for her over the past 18 years.

And yet Altman has the chutzpah to claim that her comments weren’t “political.” Uh…say WHAT??? Wow…a DUMB@$$ AND a lousy liar? JACKPOT!!!

Tell her what she’s won, Don Pardo!!!

You know that A DUMB@$$ AWARD wiener is truly worthy when he or she is truly convinced of their own intellectual and moral superiority…even as they bloody their knuckles for dragging them along the pavement.

Really; what is so terribly wrong with not arriving at issues with preconceived notions? What is so wrong with having an open mind and thinking, evaluating, and deciding for yourself? Is it really such a crime if your child grows up not thinking or believing as your do? Does that REALLY make you a failure as a parent? Or do you really want your children the same sort of mental and intellectual trailer park that you do?

Yearbook committee member Blair Mellon says they took out the “liberal teachings” part because it was a political statement and not appropriate for the yearbook. School leaders agreed.

“It is a keepsake for children,” said Tustin Amole, Cherry Creek Schools spokesperson. “It’s something that they are going to be looking at years and years from now and just not an appropriate forum for political statements.”

Altman says it was not political.

Yeah, and I’ve got a bridge somewhere in Arizona for you….

“The word liberal means loose. We have to take what the definition of liberal means. I didn’t say Democrats,” she said.

Webster’s Dictionary defines liberal in part as “not orthodox.” Click here to see Merriam-Webster’s definition of “liberal.”

Man, I almost don’t know where to begin in ripping this woman’s ignorance and intellectual dishonesty to bits. Then again, it hard seems worth the effort. To her, I’m no doubt little more than just another example of the horrors visited upon our great country by our “Liberal” educational system. Gee, sorry, I guess I was taught how to think critically and to approach issues with and open mind…instead of assuming that everything that doesn’t match with preconceived notions is the result of “Liberalism” and therefore evil and wrong. Perhaps that explains the lack of scabs on my knuckles, eh?

By law, schools are allowed to alter any school newspaper or yearbook for essentially any reason they think is inappropriate. The 1988 U.S. Supreme Court decision Hazelwood School District versus Kuhlmeier established that the first amendment does not protect school publications from censorship.

“Yes, it is our right to do that,” Amole said.

Amole says the only thing the yearbook committee did wrong was not notifying Altman ahead of time that her message was being changed. The school is refunding her $5 payment. However, Altman says it was never about the money, it was about the principle.

“You expect to get what you paid for,” Altman said.

Yeah; and those five dollars should be able to purchase a monument to ignorance and prejudice that will last a lifetime, no? Gimme a break….
