Some see dead mayor’s face in sycamore tree
The beloved mayor of Rosemont, Illinois, died just two months ago after more than 50 years as the leader of the busy village. But Mayor Donald Stephens angrily vowed to return to our dimension should his son ruin his legacy…. “He told me, you screw things up, I’m gonna haunt you,” said his 44-year-old son Bradley. Apparently things have been screwed up: A tree stands outside the village’s health club ‚Äö√Ñ√Æ a tree that Donald Stephens twice saved from the chainsaw. And now the 4,200 people of Rosemont see their dead mayor’s angry face in the bark. They have placed a candle and, uhm, a barricade near the tree and consult it like an Oracle.
Hey, if you have the face of Jeebus in a frying pan, on a baking sheet, on a refrigerator, or on a grilled cheese sandwich, why do you think the phenomenon would be limited to Him? Yeah, so he’s the Son of Almighty God and all, but why can’t ordinary dead people get in on the face-in-the-[insert unlikely and implausible inanimate object here] shtick?
Judging by the picture, the late Mayors Stephens was a pretty creepy-looking guy to start with, so the idea of his returning after death to haunt an inanimate object in his former bailiwick might not be so unbelievable. After all, someone’s got to make sure that no one’s screwing things up, right?
Man, I LOVE this country? Where else can a man return after death and scare the crap out of the faithful and the mildly unbalanced and get so much face time? I’ll bet Mayor Stephens didn’t get this much free press when he was alive. It’s just too bad, I suppose, that his 15 minutes came after he was too dead to fully enjoy and appreciate them…..
