Hypocrisy, thou art Republican

I’m the last person you’ll ever find defending William Jefferson. Frankly, I think they ought to store his nuts in the same freezer they found the $90,000 in. The man is as corrupt as the day is long and deserves to be drummed out of Washington…by his fellow Democrats. For a confirmed DUMB@$$ like Rep. John Boehner (R-OH) to suddenly discover the virtues of honesty and integrity, you’d have to think that the was an opportunity to score some political points at stake…and of course there is.

If William Jefferson is to be expelled from Congress, and there is certainly an argument to be made for that, it should be because Democrats recognize that it’s the right thing to do. IF Democrats are going to be the party of honesty and integrity, they simply cannot afford to be seen as coddling the morally and ethically challenged within their ranks. In this case, action will speak volumes, and they may well have a case for expelling Jefferson.

For Republicans like John Boehner to be acting as if they’re circling a piece of raw meat is hypocritical at best and disingnenuous at worst. These are the same morally- and ethically challenged pols who stood behind Bob Ney and Tom DeLay. The hypocrisy inherent in Boehner’s bleatings is almost tangible, and it speaks to the fact that Republicans ultimately care little about ethics or integrity. In the end, it’s all about scoring political points and making hay off your opponent’s foibles.

So much for taking care of the People’s Business, eh??
