DES MOINES ‚Äö√Ñ√Æ Joseph Biden, the Delaware Democrat running for president, is a man of strong opinions. During a campaign event in a Des Moines backyard today, Mr. Biden had some choice words for President Bush and two of the Republicans running for the White House…. “This guy is brain dead,” Mr. Biden said to surprised applause and laughter from the crowd. “I know I’ll be quoted, I’ll be killed for that.”…. “This is a guy who is on the balls of his heels, here’s a guy who is lower off in the polls than any president in modern history and he goes ahead and he does something that just flies in the face of the sensibilities of the American people.”
I know…sticks and stones, right? Still, it IS nice to run across a Democrat with a functional set of cojones and the willingness to say what’s on his mind unvarnished by political correctness.
Here’s the thing, though: Biden is right. Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader is brain-dead, politically speaking. For a President whose approval numbers are positively Nixonian and headed toward single digits to pardon Scooter Libby is the equivalent of flipping off America…not that he hasn’t done that before- literally.
Historically, I’ve never been a big fan of Joe Biden. He’s more bravado and bluster than substance, and he tends to run off at the mouth, and his rhetoric rarely matches his actions. He’s also something of a lightning rod, mostly because of his reputation for being a verbal loose cannon. Still, every now and again he tends to say something that actually carries some meaning and gravitas. In this case, Biden’s observation is spot-on, accusing the President of being completely out of his mind by pardoning a crony to protect himself. While his statement may not be the most diplomatic, it is difficult to argue eith. That The Worst President EVER © seems to care so little for the opinions and sensibilities of the vast majority of his constituency is quite disturbing. King George the Worst © has reduced himself to being the President of a drooling, knuckle-dragging minority of True Believers. This President may well before the end of his term find his approval rating descending into single digits- no mean feat for a man who enjoyed almost universal acclaim in the aftermath of 9.11.
The sad thing is that more Democrats aren’t willing to speak their mind like Joe Biden. Unfortunately, moral courage seems to be in short supply among Democrats on Capitol Hill these days. Though they’ve been handed a large and impossible to miss target, Democrats seem reluctant to take dead aim. Jeez, people…do the right thing already….
