Here’s How Fringe I Am, Fred Thompson
I am very happy for Scooter Libby. I know that this is a great relief to him, his wife and children. While for a long time I have urged a pardon for Scooter, I respect the president’s decision. This will allow a good American, who has done a lot for his country, to resume his life.
I never cease to be amazed at the number of slash-and-burn Red Meat Conservatives who have been militating for Scooter Libby to be pardoned. Even a man like Fred Thompson, who claims to be a man of principle, has conveniently managed to ignore the fact THAT SCOOTER LIBBY IS A CONVICTED FELON. Oh, but Libby’s “good people”, he’s a “dedicated public servant”…and, oh, what about his wife and children?? Can’t we just stop the persecution now? Hasn’t this good and decent man suffered enough?
Uh, hello? I realize that this probably comes as a news flash to all y’all who think that the rule of law only appears to mere mortals (i.e.- Liberals) and not to enlightened Conservative patriots such as yourselves, but Libby was convicted of a felony. Let me repeat that one more time in a slightly different form- LIBBY WAS CONVICTED OF A FELONY, SPECIFICALLY LYING TO AUTHORITIES AND OBSTRUCTING JUSTICE. Now, I don’t know about y’all, but where I come from, when you’re convicted of a crime YOU DO THE TIME. Actions have consequences, and if your actions are in violation of the law, you go to jail. Period. End of story. Do not pass “Go”. Do NOT collect $200. Shut up and quit your whining; it’s time to take your medicine like a man.
Of course, if you’re Scooter Libby, you’re wealthy and well-connected enough to have powerful friends willing to intercede on your behalf. And, since you’re “good people”, Fred Thompson and his ilk have been insisting for months that Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader © should whip out his pardon pen. After all, a brilliant and dedicated criminal public servant like Scooter Libby shouldn’t be held to the same standard of conduct as mere, lesser mortals, right?
Scooter Libby, this “good American, who has done a lot for his country” was apparently also willing to lie, cheat, obstruct justice, and participate in blowing the cover of an undercover CIA agent as retaliation against her husband, who had the temerity to tell the truth about Iraq and expose this Adminstration for the lying sacks of @#!% they are. Libby is a common, garden-variety felon- a convicted criminal who, regardless of his connections and social stature, should have to pay the price required by our justice system for his crime. Of course, when you have friends like Fred Thompson, who cares about enemies?
And as for The Worst President EVER © ? Well, it’s clear that he’s only truly compassionate towards his fellow Conservatives.
Here’s a question I’d like to ask Thompson, though: what if Libby were, oh, I don’t know…Tookie Williams? Yeah, I know…who says Justice is blind?
I can handle the fact that Fred Thompson is an elitist, a world-class DUMB@$$ of the first order. What I cannot stand is the rampant hypocrisy and double standard personified by Thompson’s demand that Libby be pardoned. When a Presidential candidate is willing to throw his weight behind a convicted felon, shouldn’t it be accepted as a matter of course that he’s lost his claim to the moral high ground? Shouldn’t it be recognized that as a morally bankrupt DUMB@$$, he’s forfeited any claim to being a proponent of honesty, justice, and leadership?
And Fred Thompson wants to be President? Jeebus, what a moral reprobrate….
