Flynt To Release More DC Names Linked To Prostitution: “I Was Shocked, Especially At One Senator”

Hail, worthy Larry, smiter of libidinous sanctimony

MY NEW HERO #81: Larry Flynt

More power to Larry Flynt. And enough of the squeamish quailing from some in my corner of the room about Flynt’s nailing zipper-happy hypocrites. It’s so biblical, or at least Mosaic, as to be the Lord’s work. Extra points, by the way, to conservatives who are firm enough of conviction that they want louche Republicans such as Sen. David “Family Values” Vitter of Louisiana to do the honorable thing and quit when their repeated calls to an alleged hooker booker are revealed. In fact, one sweet development as Vitter slimed into a suburban New Orleans hotel Monday for another fact-free apology was the appearance of Young Republicans from the University of New Orleans demanding his resignation.

I know; it really does seem as if some Republicans are very easy targets these days- almost TOO easy, as a matter of fact. Then again, when “holier than thou” Conservative Republicans get their comeuppance, it’s a beautiful thing.

The latest edition of “Hyprocrites Need Love, Too” features Louisiana Republican David Vitter, a thoroughly undistinguished Senator loved by the “family values” crowd. (OK, y’all…a show of hands here. How many of you- honestly- had ever even HEARD of Vitter before his number turned up on the DC Madam’s list?)

Larry Flynt may be many things- most of them unsavory, I suppose- but he does excel at exposing hypocrites…and he doesn’t play favorites. Would that more Americans worked as hard as he does to expose hypocrites in public office. If you keep your nose clean and walk the talk, Flynt (and most reasonable people) will have no problem with you. Berate a Democratic President for his moral failings while you’re boinking prostitutes and wearing diapers, and…well, let’s just say that you deserve whatever ridicule and derision is directed your way.

Whatever you may think of Hustler, Larry Flynt is doing this nation a tremendous public by exposing moral reprobates and hypocrites like David Vitter.

Some news reports from Vitter’s latest meatless mea culpa said flatly that the senator denied allegations that he also had a relationship with New Orleans prostitutes.

Not exactly, as the Times-Picayune pointed out. Vitter, less categorically, actually said:

“Unfortunately, my admission has encouraged some longtime political enemies and those hoping to profit from the situation to spread falsehoods, like those New Orleans stories in recent reporting.”

Gee, it almost makes you want to shed a tear for the guy, eh? Well, OK, not really….

Oh, to put Vitter on the stand (even for a wet-noodle Senate internal review of his bringing discredit to the institution) and let no more than a recent law school graduate pick at that mushy confabulation.

In an editorial Tuesday, the Times-Picayune noted the inadequacy of Vitter’s performance in this matter.

“He represents the people of Louisiana,” the paper said. “Louisianans have a right to be concerned that a lawmaker may have broken the law … “

(If for no other reason, as the Times-Picayune pointed out: “He has spent his entire career pushing for accountability and ethics among elected officials.” At least other elected officials.)

It’s always much easier to demand accountability of others than cultivating it in yourself. Then again, if it weren’t for double standards, Vitter would have no standards at all.

The newspaper has a point.

As Debra Jean Palfrey, the alleged “D.C. Madam,” asked Time: “Why am I the only person being prosecuted?”

Uh…well, ‘cuz prostitution is a victimless crime, no? And, since men are the recipients of the “services” provided by prostitutes, why should they be punished for being customers? Besides, it’s SO much easier to demonize a prostitute than a US Senator. Prostitutes are evil, licentious harlots and jezebels. Senators represent the very flower of our democracy…right??

Jeebus…we can only hope that there’s a special place in Hell for people like David Vitter. And we should all be thanking Larry Flynt for turning Vitter into the public embarrassment he deserves to be.
