Bachmann On Her Trip To Iraq: It’s Like Visiting The ‘Mall Of America’
Continued: Michele Bachmann: Watching her step
This month, Bachmann traveled to Iraq, and despite more GOP defections from Bush’s base of support, she returned as firm as ever in her conviction that the war is justified. Al-Qaida, she said, “doesn’t show any signs of letting up.” The congressional delegation met with Gen. David Petraeus, the top commander in Iraq, in one of Saddam Hussein’s palaces. What was the palace like?….”It’s absolutely huge,” she said. “I turned to my colleagues and said there’s a commonality with the Mall of America, in that it’s on that proportion. There’s marble everywhere. The other thing I remarked about was there is water everywhere. He had man-made lakes all around his personal palace — one for fishing, one for boating.”

I’ve been tempted to just give in to reality and name the DUMB@$$ AWARD for Congresswoman Michele Bachmann. Not only has Bachmann made time in her busy professional baby farming career to represent my old district in Minnesota, she’s also managed to commit a borderline sexual assault upon Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader © …and now she’s become something of a political pundit. Yes, ‘tis better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and be recognized as a complete DUMB@$$. Such is Bachmann’s lot in life. Thankfully for us, Bachmann’s mouth is usually engaged and running at full throttle before her brain even rousts itself from it’s near-constant slumber. Who else would walk into one of Saddam Hussein’s former palaces and wonder where the food court is?
Sure, it’s big, but where’s the Cinnabon?? And where would Jesus shop???
I’ve been to the Mall of America, and while I’ve never been to any of Saddam’s former palaces, I’m going to go out on a limb and hazard a guess that it’s NOTHING like the monstrosity that replaced Metroplitan Stadium. Then again, when you’re Michele Bachmann, you never know what you’re going to get, eh? She may be a complete DUMB@$$, but she surely is pure, unadulterated entertainment.

I have not been to Mall of America, but I have been to Al Faw Palace, which is impressive as far as the marble and size of the palace. Having said that, the Palace represents Saddam's delusions of grandeur (it was his hunting lodge), and has been repaired in places for the use of HQ MNF-I and MNC-I. It is not representative of the rebuilding of Iraq (neither is the US Embassy).
Bottom line: Who cares about the Palace? Let's concentrate on getting the troops home.
