Uh...but he has no chance of winning, right??

Ron Paul Tops McCain in Cash on Hand

ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos Reports: Though often regarded as a longshot candidate for president, Republican Ron Paul tells ABC News that he has an impressive $2.4 million in cash on hand after raising an equal amount during the second quarter, putting him ahead of one-time Republican frontrunner John McCain, who reported this week he has only $2 million in the bank…. Paul’s cash on hand puts him in third place in the Republican field in that important metric, although he is well behind leader Rudy Giuliani, who has $18 million in the bank, and Mitt Romney, with $12 million. Paul, who polls show with support in the low single digits, said his surprisingly strong fundraising is the best measure of his support.

OK, so the man’s a Libertarian nutjob with absolutely none- zero, zip, nada- chance of winning the GOP Presidential nomination, which only means that he’s PERFECT for the Internet generation. Rep. Ron Paul, a candidate that inspires snickers from rank-and-file Republicans, has more cash on hand than Sen. John McCain, he of the I’ll Do Or Say Whatever It TakesTo Get Elected Straight Talk Express. Damn, I love politics….

Anyone who honestly think that Ron Paul has a snowballs’s chance in Hell of being the GOP nominee really ought to put down the bong. Even so, stranger things have happened- Jimmy Carter, anyone? In the Internet age, political momentum and popularity can come from places that were impossible to conceive of just a few short years ago. Six months before the beginning of primary season, a lot can still happen, so writing off Ron Paul or anyone else is recklessly premature. I can’t help but wonder, though; is America really ready for a Congressman that requests earmarks for projects in his district…and then votes against the appropriations bill containing those same earmarks. Let’s face it, y’all…Ron Paul makes Tom Tacnredo and Duncan Hunter look like voices of reason, though I do admire Paul for his anti-war stance.

Then again, the man has about as much chance of becoming President as I do, right??
