After Propagating False Iraq Intel, NYT’s Michael Gordon Now Echoing Bush Claims On Iran
New York Times….reporter Michael Gordon uncritically reports that the increase in “attacks on American forces” is the result of “a lethal type of roadside bomb said to be supplied by Iran.” Gordon’s piece relies primarily on a single military source, fails to challenge the source’s information, and casually dismisses contrary opinions as the complaints of “some critics of Bush.”…. In February and July, Gordon similarly promoted Bush administration charges with a “one-sided array of anonymous sources charging the Iranian government with providing a particularly deadly variety of roadside bomb to Shia militias in Iraq.” Gordon’s reports were disputed by high-profile officials including Gen. Peter Pace. Gordon engaged in similar exaggerated misreporting in the lead-up to war with Iraq. Along with disgraced New York Times reporter Judith Miller, Gordon relied on anonymous sources to propagate the administration’s case for war in a series of front-page exclusives.
Uh, yeah…so how’s that whole “Liberal Media Elite” thing working out for you? Not so well, huh? That’s good, because there’s clearly no such thing. What we DO have is no shortage of intellectually dishonest and morally deficient “journalists” willing to carry water and spread lies and propaganda for Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader © and his Reign of Error. How else do you think we ended up with a war in Iraq to begin with? Hell, yes, these people are PROFESSIONALS. Even I supported the war at the outset (to my everlasting shame)…the propaganda was that good. Spreading yet more lies and propaganda on behalf of the most corrupt and dishonest Administration in this nation’s history is child’s play to people like Gordon. You want a war in Iran? No problemo…you just leave the heavy listing to Michael Gordon and his merry band of professional moral misfits. Before you know it, a majority of the American Sheeple will be waving the flags and praying for the pilots who’ll be bombing Tehran.
Here’s the problem with this, though: if you or I were as openly partisan and inept as Gordon, we’d be out on our butts filing for unemployment…and justifiably so. Yet Michael Gordon is feted by Right-wing talk show hosts as if he was some sort of prophet, a man with the uncanny and unparalleled ability to glean the truth from the most complex of political machinations. Somewhere, Josef Goebbels is smiling.
What a load of crap. Gordon is little more than a disturbingly partisan DUMB@$$ and moral midget willing to propagandize for The Decider © . In his own sad, sick way, he is every bit as culpable for the dead young Americans in Iraq as is Commander Codpiece © …not that he’ll ever see the inside of a federal prison, because officially he’s broken no laws. That hardly absolves him of responsibility, though.
May Michael Gordon slowly roast in the Hell he so richly deserves for being he living, breathing embodiment of an egregious breach of journalistic ethics.
