While Rove is undoubtedly a skilled campaign tactician, the hyperbolic image of him as a political genius overlooks his record of bungled political predictions, a series of policy failures and the damage he has wrought on America’s political system. Conservative blogger Andrew Sullivan argues, “Rove is one of the worst political strategists in recent times. He took a chance to realign the country and to unite it in a war - and threw it away in a binge of hate-filled niche campaigning, polarization and short-term expediency.”…. Washington Post’s Dan Froomkin adds, “After years of being lauded as a political genius, Rove nevertheless leaves his party in worse shape than he found it, with his boss profoundly discredited in the eyes of the American people.”
Say what you will about Karl “Turd Blossom” Rove, but the man is brilliant- at simultaneously channeling Lee Atwater, Josef Goebbels, and Niccolo Machiavelli. Rove is a political strategist for whom the phrase “by any means necessary” meant exactly that. Lying, cheating, character assassination, whisper campaigns- all these and more are merely just so many tools in this political wizard’s toolbox. His job was to get his man hired…and everyone knows you’re never going to make an omelette unless you’re willing to break some eggs. Integrity is for losers.
For being one of the most, conniving, devious, dishonest, amoral, and underhanded political operatives in this nation’s history, Rove is now being hailed as a hero by the Right and the spawn of Satan by the Left. I probably don’t have to tell y’all where I come down on this question. When you look for people to blame for the reason this nation is such a bitterly divided, f—ked-up mess, you might as well start with Turd Blossom.
Karl Rove is a man for whom politics is not about doing what’s in the best interest of this country. It’s about power and control- period. If takes bankrolling or tacitly encouraging a group of Vietnam vets willing to lie and spin the documented truth in order to portray John Kerry’s war service as a fabrication from beginning to end, so be it. If it takes planting rumors or starting whispering campaigns, then that’s what will be done. Rove is a bottom-feeder, a political force devoid of any shred of decency and integrity. Why anyone would with a straight face treat him and/or speak of him as if he’s some sort of heroic public servant makes makes it tough for me to keep my breakfast down.
Karl Rove is the worst sort of dishonest, amoral Republican pond scum. That the man is a gifted political operative is hardly a matter of dispute. Then again, neither is the fact that Rove is the very embodiment of all that is Evil about the Republican Party. If Rove is a hero, then I’m the Queen of England.
