Beware the power of stupid people in large groups

Family questions whether Davis was driving on fatal night

A judge decided today to keep 15-year-old Bobby Davis in jail while he awaits trial on felony murder charges in the deaths of four Baytown teens killed in June when a stolen Jeep crashed into a train. Before today’s hearing, about a dozen of Davis’ family and friends proclaimed his innocence in the lobby of the Harris County Juvenile Justice Center. Some held brightly colored signs with messages such as “You can’t accuse an innocent boy” and “Accidents happen.”…. After hearing that he would remain jailed for at least eight to 10 days, Davis’ family reacted with disappointment…. “Somebody is making an example of my grandson, and that is not fair,” said Pauline Davis, his grandmother, as she and others left the courthouse in tears. Davis was critically injured in the June 14 crash on East Archer Road that killed his younger brother, 14-year-old Austin Davis, and three young girls, Loral Moyers, 12; Macy Moyers, 14; and Colette Windham, 14.

There are times when I’m almost struck dumb by the sheer ignorance and permissiveness of certain segments of the population. This is one of those times when I hear something that strikes me as so incredibly, blindingly stupid that when I open my mouth, all that comes out is “Uh, what???”

Let me see if I have this straight…. A fifteen-year-old boy steals an SUV. He drives recklessly around Baytown, well above the speed limit in some cases. He crashes said SUV at a high rate of speed into a train crossing a roadway. This crash kills four teenagers. AND HIS FRIENDS AND FAMILY ARE PROCLAIMING HIS INNOCENCE? WTF???

OK, folks, can we get something straight here? Your little boy is a car thief AND a murderer. His actions- which, by the way, broke several laws- are the proximate cause of the deaths of four young people who admittedly made some pretty poor decisions that night. Did they deserve to die for their poor decision-making? Hell, no. Bobby Davis’s reckless disregard for the safety of his passengers resulted in the deaths of four teenagers who frankly deserved better. That these deaths occurred while Davis was committing a felony makes Davis a murderer.

What angers me is that his friends and family seem to think that Davis is somehow being persecuted. Uh…WHAT?? Your young hero stole a car and killed four young people. Where’s your sense of remorse for the families who had to bury their children? Where’s your sense of responsibility for dealing with the consequences of such an almost unfathomable tragedy?

I realize that I’m running the risk of oversimplifying things here, but there is one thing that seems crystal clear: Bobby Davis is a thief and a quadruple murderer. His irresponsible behavior, his recklessness, and his disregard for the safety of his passengers is something I find impossible to ignore. Yes, he’s only 15, but there comes a time when, regardless of age, one must be held accountable by society for the results of their actions. If Davis was old enough to steal a car, then he’s old enough to be held accountable for murdering four of his passengers.

Memo to the clueless trolls bent on turning Bobby Davis into some sort of prisoner of conscience: there are few things more agressively ignorant and offensive than a cabal of idiots willing to ignore both the law and the lingering impact of a tragedy such as this one. BOBBY DAVIS KILLED FOUR TEENAGERS BY HIS RECKLESS DISREGARD FOR BOTH THE LAW AND THEIR SAFETY. No one is trying to turn your little darling into a martyr. He deserves to be held accountable for the lives he took. Your defending him as some sort of hero facing impending martyrdom only makes all y’all look even more ignorant and clueless than a reasonable person might have thought possible.

If you want to express something to the media, if you want your 15 minutes of fame, how about expressing your remorse to the families of those your little hero murdered through his reckless disregard? How about going out of your way to support them and assist them as they grieve the senseless deaths of their children? How about acting as if you GET IT?? As it is, y’all look like a clueless collection of uncaring, unfeeling DUMB@$$ES, completely devoid of compassion and even the most basic understanding of the crimes Bobby Davis committed.

And while you’re at it, lose the media whore act, willya?? Jeebus, what a sorry collection of unrepentant DUMB@$$E$….
