Is anyone really out there...or, another visit from the random number generator

One of the things I’ve been wondering about for a long time now is just how many people visit TPRS on a daily basis. It’s not so much that my ego or sense of self-worth is tied into the numbers. Like any blogger, though, I find it gratifying when more people visit rather than less. While I don’t necessarily do this for the acclaim (and certainly not for the currently non-existent fame and fortune), it would be nice to know what kind of traffic TPRS attracts. (And if anyone knows a shortcut to fame and fortune, PLEASE email me….)

I discovered seceral months ago that, for whatever reason, Sitemeter severely undercounts traffic (i.e.- it sucks). Since that revelation, I’ve been using my server stats to get a gauge on readership…but even that’s a challenge to get a handle on. Por ejemplo, can anyone tell me that the numbers above mean? Page requests? Number of pages? And how do I know if these number are at all representative of the actual numbers of visitors TPRS gets?

Here’s my other question: Is there a way for me to know that I’m getting an accurate readership on the number of unique visitors? Or am I to be left to such delusions as I see fit to create?
