Limbaugh Calls Service Members Who Support Withdrawal “Phony Soldiers”
So I’m a “Phony Soldier,” Rush?
During the September 26 broadcast of his nationally syndicated radio show, Rush Limbaugh called service members who advocate U.S. withdrawal from Iraq “phony soldiers.” He made the comment while discussing with a caller a conversation he had with a previous caller, “Mike from Chicago,” who said he “used to be military,” and “believe[s] that we should pull out of Iraq.” Limbaugh told the second caller, whom he identified as “Mike, this one from Olympia, Washington,” that “[t]here’s a lot” that people who favor U.S. withdrawal “don’t understand” and that when asked why the United States should pull out, their only answer is, ” ‘Well, we just gotta bring the troops home.’ … ‘Save the — keeps the troops safe’ or whatever,” adding, “[I]t’s not possible, intellectually, to follow these people.” “Mike” from Olympia replied, “No, it’s not, and what’s really funny is, they never talk to real soldiers. They like to pull these soldiers that come up out of the blue and talk to the media.” Limbaugh interjected, “The phony soldiers.” The caller, who had earlier said, “I am a serving American military, in the Army,” agreed, replying, “The phony soldiers.”
Apparently, if you’re a card-carrying member of the Rabid Right, it’s a matter of faith that American soldiers shouldn’t be allowed to have independent thoughts. No, you seem to think that American soldiers, since they’re merely pawns in a geopolitical chess match anyway, should be expected to unthinkingly and uncritically support whatever Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader © tells them to think.
The reality that American soldiers not only think, but can honest-to-God string together complete sentences must be almost unimaginable to you. Never mind that seven members of the US Army’s 82nd Airborne Division somehow managed to stop dragging their knuckles long enough to write an op-ed piece that recently appeared in the New York Times. That the article was not uniformly and slavishly supportive of the Worst President EVER’s © seems to have incensed Rush Limbaugh’s sense of propriety and decency.
Limbaugh, a certified Chickenhawk who really should have his own wing in the DUMB@$$ Hall of Shame Fame, ought to be ashamed of himself…not that he’s capable of anything resembling shame. Seldom has one man done so much for self-righteous, ignorant, I-got-mine-you-get-your-own Conservatism. And, because he’s a Real American, he can ridicule those doing the fighting and dying in Iraq (while he fights the REAL battles, protecting America from Liberal heresy on his radio show).
Rush Limbaugh wouldn’t know courage and decency if they snuck up and bit him on the ass. Then again, as a true DUMB@$$, what would he know about courage and decency, anyway?
