If Canada ruled the world, #3

Canada is America's lamprey.

"Canada is America's lamprey."

I crack myself up.

Canada is America's lamp ray.

Canada is America's lamp, eh?

Well, for openers, we are Peacekeepers, not exceptionalist, Imperialist losers and, like the rest of the non-Yankee earthlings we all wish that our gun-loving, nitwit neighbours would get a grip.
We currently strain under a Bush Bitch wannabe whose Party mimics the neocon Pubics currently trashing the good old U.S of A.
We provide superior health care to everyone+our schools educate our children.
Before the New Year, we'll have a government that leads on Kyoto+we'll share our expertise with the world on elegant expertise to attempt to mitigate the only thing that matters, catastrophic, anthropogenic pollution of the biosphere.
We have no inclination to "Rule the World" but rather to provide Peace, Order+ Good Government to ourselves and immigrants.
There are more bald eagles in the Canadian majority of the Lake of the woods than the continental U.S
Lets do unto others, work together, ride the peace train.
Love the O'Jays, Wham was a one-hit-wonder anyway. Pay attention, cousins, its later than you think.
Cheers, gavin

I admire Canada and its people. A true class act on the world stage.

Oh that's right! There is kind of a big, lumbering, baby-seal slaughtering, non-contributing country of anything useful to society (except for citizen smugness) close to the U.S.A. Golly, of all the free countries of the world, what does Canada do that impresses anyone, but then, that's probably the reason for the creation of a billboard that declares:

CANADA~~~Leading the world in being just north of the
United States

If Canada ruled the world? What a great idea! North Americans would know Geography and how to speak and spell ENGLISH like the rest of the English speaking world.

The world would be a fun place, what with all those excellent Canadian comedians, you could have a Ministry of Humour, where knowing how to laugh would be a government run program.
World citizens would have clean water and food, rather than the US policy of guns for oil.

North Americans (lets call them Canadians) would be educated and less arrogant, making them lovely guests in other countries. Measurement systems would tally with the rest of world. North America will look its true size on a world map.

I wish Canada ruled the world...

If canada ruled the world? Its a nice little day dream and to be frank there are many advantages to living in Canada. the biggest difference is of coruse unversial health care. Thats the big one. The one from which most of the other differences flow. Its a effective wealthredistribution system. Canadians have almost as many guns percapita as americans but they have a tendency to be a little happier and feel a bit more sucure and as a result they shoot at ach other less ften. also the population presures are not as extreme as they are in the USA. However it would be a mistake to assume that all is well in the great white north. It is not the liberal paradise that some of us down here make it out to be. There are people living there(mostly wealthy consertivtives) who want to dismantel the healthcare system and everybody conplains about it from time to time. It has to be constantly guarded form the likes of the current Prime Minister Stevn (god I wish i was a republican) Harper. The main defencive weapon against such people is to ask the canadian population if they would rather ave their current system or American style health care and the panic that ensues is breath taking. Dont feel too bad my fellow American keep up the pressure and stay pissed off and we will have a single payer system here eventualy.

Hey Lorraine, Canada has done more than you think. We may kill baby seals but we don't kill Iraqis, (or shit loads of people around the world), involved in stem cell research, have better health care than most, invented insulin, the electron microscope, the light bulb (that's right, Edison didn't even think of it), PEACEKEEPING...I could go on, but then you might not follow after acouple lines seing you may be a stuck up burnt out American, or a lowly self hating Canadian.

To "J".

Lightbulb inventors:

Humphry Davy - English
Joseph Wilson Swan - English
Charles Francis Brush - American
Thomas Alva Edison - American
Lewis Howard Latimer - American
Willis Whitney - American

Get your head out of your ass bub. The intellectual achievements of Americans outnumber Canadians' intellectual achievements by a massively wide ratio. Indisputable fact. Get over it. We may have a power mad cabal in charge but that doesn't change our history of incomparable accomplishments.

Memo to TJ: You are not entitled to invent your own facts, nor are the rest of us obliged to admire you as some kind of world leader for doing so.

For that matter, the same can be said of your country.

If American intellectuals are so great, how come so many of them have been so wrong about everything from the actual numbers of Russian nukes to rationales for the Iraq war? With that kind of leadership, it's amazing that there is still a world left for them to screw up and misinterpret.

BTW, the telephone was invented in Canada. Insulin and penicillin? Canada again. The heart pacemaker: Canada. The Apgar scoring system for infant health? Created by a Canadian--Dr. Virginia Apgar. Cyprus is peaceful today because Canadian soldiers, on behalf of the UN, helped make it so. Same goes for Kosovo. The lightbulb was invented in England by Sir Humphry Davy, NOT Edison.

In spite of that last, however, Canada STILL kicks ass. Which is why so many Americans who don't want to be ugly in foreign countries borrow OUR flag to stick on their backpacks.

Indisputable facts.

Wow!! From the posts I read here, it would make one assume that everyone in Canada hates the U.S. and all who live here. Canada was once a upright nation that didn't harbor such a hatred for the country that provided most of her national defense. Although she offered opportunity, my grandfathers came from Canada to the U.S. to find a better life and did so for my mother, her siblings and their children. My mother and her siblings spoke French at home but English when they were not. My grandfather said, "we are Americans. We speak English." He was a proud man who provided the best he could for his family. I am proud of my heritage. My ancestors came to North America (Canada) with the Company of One Hundred Associates. Frankly, the vicious comments posted here are a disgrace to their memory and make me sick. They disgrace the sacrifice of my family and what they contributed to Canada and the United States. I will always acknowledge my French Canadian past but am forever a Patriot son of the United States. Bon nuit

Ye, Japan would rule Asia under warloards. Russia would rule Europe (or worse, the Nazis). No comupters, no mass produced autos, no trip to moon. No free Koreans! Sounds wonderful.

We are all not alike in America, not everyone is the kind of American your country seems to hate so much.

Please I am asking you politely to just shut up Mike, I am from America, you are being a sarcastic ass..most of them are right. Our country and it's government have brought much of the hatetred upon ourselves. DJD is correct about past wars and each country's involvment. I am not against my country either, no one and no country is perfect, my country does have positive attributes about it. America should not consider ourselves the 'Superpower'. Americans are all not the same, however, so please do not judge us as such. We are individuals with individual thoughts, ideas, values and hopes. Some even have knowledge of proper english. I wouldn't boo anyone's National Anthem, so maybe it has nothing to do with the country in which you live..just maybe it is about something more, something inside each idividual?

If Canada even ruled Canada there wouldn't be a lottery for people trying to use the hospital system in Nova Scotia.

Heck, if Canada ruled Canada they wouldn't have a whole province (Quebec) trying to get out of Canada.

and lastly to end the day..a little American humor..and a view on the President. a saying I find funny.
"there is no BUSH in my panties"
we all do not agree with our President.

I sure hope that people realize that at the end of the day all we are going to have left are our neighbors. Be it neighbors down the street, across town or even international borders. It won"t matter the color of their skin or whether they are legal or illegal, man or woman. We are in for some extremely dire straits due to the unknown effect that the MASSIVE arctic ice loss will have. This past month alone an area twice the size of Great Britain dissapeared in 7 days!!Just check out all the stories you can find online that were written many, many years ago. They are predicting exactly what we are seeing now except that we are going to soon enter hyper warming as the ice melts and doesnt reflect back the ninety percent of the solar energy it once did.So you know what...instead of fueding like children lets celebrate each others differences and try and tolerate the individual idiocyncrasy that each of us may or may not have. And while im at it i would like feedback for what i think could possibly be the basis of what what could be the basis of a new world religion.Everyone has a mother.Who do you( or should you) love as much as anyone on earth? Your mother. If somehow we were able to get this started worldwide( i know im a dreamer) it would unite us as what we really need to be united against is going to be the hostile future we have wrought for ourselves.Of course it would take a long time for this all to be written and vetted by the many, many parties involved. But hey.....we have to go to one world religion.Sooner rather than later.Cheers all take care and drive safely!!

The anti-Americanism we see here is probably a result of Bush and Cheney - although Reagan wa just as bad. But we have had our idiots in charge as well - including the guy we have now.

That being said - the revisionist history of WW2 taught in the US drives me crazy. In June, 1940 Hitler danced a jig at Versailles - France had fallen. Later that month about 100 RAF and Canadian pilots defeated the vaunted Luftwaffe in the Battle of Britain. And where was the US? Nowhere - for 18 (eighteen!!) months until Pearl Harbour. The fate of the free world was left to the defense of a few Brits and Canadians - and we pulled it off.

America's business class (including Bush's grandfather) was only too happy to do business with Hitler. This brand of neoconservatism coloured with wacky right-wing religiosity, is still around today.

Don't get me wrong - I love the US. Its people are the greatest neighbours anyone could have. I just wish they'd stop having to be so infallible when it comes to historical judgments. WW2, Vietnam, Iraq - the American Taliban in control now is one of the worst governments in the history of the world.

Read through these posts. Very interesting! Good to see discussion, rather than dismemberment!

I've lived for extensive periods of time on both sides of the border, and will simply say that in my personal opinion, I regard the American people on the overall as decent goodhearted people. I will not engage in any lengthy ramble regarding your leaders, nor their policies, as I believe that the vast majority of you are painfully aware of what those choices have brought forth. I truly hope that you are given the option of choosing a better future, firstly for the health of your nation, and also for those of us who live near you.

My only 'beef' with Americans (again, generalizing) is that your spelling tends to be atrocious at the best of times. Spelling is often how I discern nationality when reading posts:) :)
Perhaps a result of the 'Redmond spelchuckr'? There! that should start some busy posting :) :)

Canadians rule the world? Nahhh...we don't need to. "Snap!" "ka-clink!" ...ahhh, the taste of real beer!
