News they way it oughta be

Fox only broadcast network that did not air Democratic response to Bush speech

Following President Bush’s address to the nation on Iraq, Fox was the only broadcast network not to air the Democratic response. Instead, Shepard Smith gave a short description of the response and stated: “Our coverage continues on the Fox News Channel on cable and satellite with the Democratic response and more. Right now, back to your local Fox programming.” ABC, NBC, and CBS all aired the Democratic response.

One of the questions I’ve always wanted to find an answer to, though I know it will never happen, is why Fox News Channel is the phenomenon it is. After all, you’d have to think that any lucid individual with even a shred of common sense and native intelligence would be able to recognize Faux News Channel for the Right-wing propaganda mouthpiece it is…right??

I mean, how stupid does one have to be in order to watch FSN thinking that they’re getting actual, unvarnished, “fair and balanced” news? Yeah, I know…”we propagandize, you decide”…. The sad thing is that FSN- from management to rank and file- actually seems to believe the whole “fair and balanced” shtick…as if they’re some sort of bulwark against “The Liberal Media”. Uh, what?? Have these maroons forgotten that media conglomerates tend to be own by large corporations, which by definition lean decidedly Conservative?

And what purpose is served by openly and nakedly chanting Right-wing talking points…as if ideology is a workable substitute for objective, hard-working journalism? What I find so sad and disturbing is that so many well-meaning people actually believe the FSN is a “fair and balanced” alternative to “The Liberal Media”. When I speak derisively of the American Sheeple, this is exactly what I’m talking about- barely lucid, mind-numbingly stupid acceptance of blatant, impossible to ignore propaganda…and acting as if it’s the most natural and sensible thing in the world.

Yeah, but they’re “fair and balanced”, so it’s all OK….
