Please join me in mourning the death of comedy in the 2008 GOP Presidential campaign

Gingrich Decides Against Presidential Bid

CARROLLTON, Ga., Sept. 29 — Former U.S. House speaker Newt Gingrich on Saturday decided against running for president in 2008, less than a day after the Republican indicated publicly that he would spend the next month exploring the viability of a White House bid. Gingrich said the last-minute change of heart, which came as aides readied the NewtNow.org Web site and prepared to file campaign papers, was the result of legal advice that running for president would require stepping down as chairman of his nonprofit organization, American Solutions.

In a decision that has most of us who live our lives in the hope of being granted opportunities for ridiculing self-righteous, arrogant Republicans crying in our beer, it appears that perennial DUMB@$$ Newt Gingrich is declining to throw his hat in the ring for 2008. I mean, my God, the idea of two Republican serial adulterers going mano a mano on “family values” seemed like manna from heaven. Alas, it appears ‘tis not to be.

Gingrich, one of the more hypocritical Republicans out there, would have provided a target the size of the USS Enterprise. He no doubt would have come out swinging, trying to claim the moral high ground as his own- no mean feat for a man who once served his wife with divorce papers in her hospital bed as she was being treated for cancer. An Obama- Gingrich race would have been a dream come true, and I would have paid to see Obama slice Gingrich up.

Ah, well…I wonder what Gary Bauer is doing this days?
