Michael says trying to smoke less marijuana
LONDON (Reuters) - British singer George Michael is trying to reduce his consumption of marijuana, the pop star told the BBC on Sunday. “I’m constantly trying to smoke less marijuana. I’d like to take less and to a degree it’s a problem,” Michael told BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs program…. “Is it a problem in my life? Is it getting in the way of my life? I really don’t think,” added Michael. “I’m a happy man and I can afford my marijuana so that’s not a problem.”…. Previously Michael, who has sold more than 85 million records with hits such as “Careless Whisper,” has admitted to a dependency on prescription drugs and has called marijuana much less harmful than alcohol.
I’ll agree with George Michael that marijuana is far less damaging and dangerous than alcohol. Of course, that and $2.50 might get you a cappucino at your local Starbucks. The reality is that alcohol is socially acceptable because, like caffeine, it’s deeply woven into our social fabric. Marijuana? Well, as your momma always told you, that stuff will make you grow breasts. Or was it fur on your palms? I never could remember…perhaps because I was known to partake a fair bit back in the day. Sure, I understand that some people are still hung up on the whole “Reefer Madness” aspect of marijuana, but I’ve never found it to be that big of a deal. Personally, I have no more problem with marijuana usage than I do alcohol usage. Of course, Jack Daniels won’t make you horny or give you a case of the munchies, which is why marijuana can be so much fun.
Even in light of all of this, I could really care less about George Michael’s issues with marijuana, or sex in public toilets, or whatever else he’s up to in excess these days. How this is even remotely newsworthy is beyond me. Michael hasn’t done anything of note in many years, and even when he did, he was over-hyped. Apparently, someone still thinks that Michael’s personal problems are still somehow newsworthy, which really only proves that someone has WAY too much time on their hands.
