On Fox News’ Hannity and Colmes….right-wing radio host Melanie Morgan said Rush Limbaugh was “accurate” when he said that service members who support withdrawal from Iraq are “phony soldiers.” While trying to support her claim, Morgan attacked VoteVets.org Chairman Jon Soltz as part of the “soldiers who are fake, or who are embellishers, or who are posers.”…. Morgan then claimed that Soltz, who served honorably in both Kosovo and Iraq, has a “far left, anti-America agenda” and that he “undermine[s] the real mission of our troops, our heros who are out there”
There were many- FAR too many- candidates for the 666th edition of the DUMB@$$ AWARD. Y’all made some worthy suggestions, and any of them would have been deserving of this high (dis)honor. What it came down to, though, was the reality that I found someone so thoroughly propagandized, so willing to ignore and twist reality, so drunk on the KoolAid, and so thoroughly brain-dead that she was, at least in my mind, the obvious choice. Melanie Morgan’s ignorance and willingness to parrot Right-wing talking points despite almost overwhelming evidence to the contrary makes her the perfect Faux News Channel talking head. What Morgan either willingly ignores, or is too thoroughly brain-dead to recognize, is that no reasonable person doesn’t support our troops and applaud their heroism. That’s hardly the issue here, though Morgan knows that if she can keep the argument on that plane she’ll never have to discuss the actual honest-to-God issue, which is snivelling, arrogant Right-wing trolls like Rush Limbaugh whose combat service extends to fighting the battle of the airwaves on Right-wing hate radio.
You can bet the ranch- and your left testicle, if you happen to have one- that if Al Franken (or any other Left-wing pundit) had voiced the sentiments that Limbaugh did, the hue and cry and the weeping and gnashing of teeth would be heard from coast to coast. When a Right-winger does it, though, it’s a perfectly acceptable statement of opinion, or as they define it, fact.
That someone such as Melanie Morgan could be so obviously and unthinkingly partisan only serves to point up just how intellectually and morally vacant she truly is. Of course, her employer, Faux News Channel, is probably quite happy with her willingness to unquestioningly parrot the party line. Yes, Virginia- stupid is as stupid does…and they don’t come much more intellectually bereft than Melanie Morgan, do they?

Aye, here be a DUMB@$$…perhaps not the personification of Evil- unless you define ignorance and slavish, unthinking partisanship as Evil- but certainly the very definition and personification of a DUMB@$$. Someone really ought to check Morgan’s knuckles for scabs….
