As the nation slips into a new “Not So Great Depression,” Republicans are embracing a new kind of Compassionate Conservatism that should appeal to poverty-stricken people who’ve lost their homes, jobs and traditional abhorrence of homosexuality and pedophilia. Leading the new effort is Wisconsin Republican leader and Brown County GOP Chairman Donald Fleischman, currently facing charges of child enticement, contributing to the delinquency of a child and exposing himself to a child ‚Äö√Ñ√Æ all because he (allegedly) wanted to show his love to a runaway boy! Fleischman apparently took the boy to some remote cabin in the woods (surely a log cabin), plied the kid with beer and marijuana, and then repeatedly tried to get busy with the teen in bed.

So, how’s them there fam-i-lee val-yews workin’ out fer ya?? Not so well? Hey, don’t worry; your frustration is understandable. It’s GOT to be tough being a closeted gay child abuser while also trying to hold down a leadership position in the Republican Party. I mean, not everyone can be as skilled and duplicitous as Larry Craig…and not everyone can be as craven and shameless as Mark Foley, right??

Yeah…Compassionate Conservatism; uh, I don’t think this is what Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader © meant when he coined this most meaningless of appellations.

As I’ve said on many previous occasions, I’m fully aware that Republicans don’t have a monopoly on the perversion market. After all, sexual deviancy has been around since Adam & Eve discovered that being naked had certain advantages. It’s just that Republicans, because of their insufferable, holier-than-thou pandering to the “family values” crowd, have much farther to fall from their pedestal. When they do fall, as they inevitably and predictably do, they fall farther, harder, and with far more entertainment value than most Democrats. They’re entertaining for the same reasons that Christians ministers who get themselves busted in flagrante delicto with underage boys are entertaining. They’ve devoted so much time, energy, and piety trumpeting their own righteous that their hypocrisy, once discovered, often becomes a comedy gold mine.
