Huckabee likens abortion to a holocaust
Speaking before a gathering of Christian conservative voters, GOP presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee said legalized abortion in the United States was a holocaust…. “Sometimes we talk about why we’re importing so many people in our workforce,” the former Arkansas governor said. “It might be for the last 35 years, we have aborted more than a million people who would have been in our workforce had we not had the holocaust of liberalized abortion under a flawed Supreme Court ruling in 1973.”…. Huckabee also spoke adamantly of the need for conservative lawmakers to show no compromise on fighting for a constitutional amendment that defines marriage between a man and a woman. “I’m very tired of hearing people who are unwilling to change the constitution, but seem more than willing to change the holy word of God as it relates to the definition of marriage,” he said.
I usually try to avoid glorifying rampant, knuckle-dragging lunacy by bestowing multiple DUMB@$$ AWARDS on the same individual. Sadly, there are those who, by dint of their divisive devotion to intolerant religious dogma or their willingness to pander to the self-righteous and the holier-than-thou, simply swim their way far enough upstream that they simply can no longer be ignored. Say hello to former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, who, if you subscribe to the above definition, is a DUMB@$$ for the ages.
I don’t have a problem with Huckabee’s right to hold whatever beliefs that get him through the night. What I DO have a problem with is his unvarnished willingness to throw his lot in with those who would eagerly force those beliefs down the throats of all Americans- the vast majority of whom don’t share them.
Mike Huckabee is the perfect example of a politician who so badly wants to sit behind the big desk in the Oval Office that he’s willing to do whatever it takes- sacrifice any principle, marginalize any nonbeliever- to make it happen. For a long time, he impressed me as a fairly reasonable Conservative (and no, that’s NOT always an oxymoron). Then he discovered that, as a Republican Presidential candidate, he was neither well-funded nor did he stand out. In order to succeed in Republican primaries, a candidates must suck up to the Religious Right, whose members are committed and willing to vote their beliefs. Huckabee has proven particulary adept at sucking up to the Rabid Right, who just LOVE White Christian Males who speak their language of self-righteousness and moral superiority. I’m not at all certain what Huckabee really has to contribute, other than the fact that he’s White, he’s a Christian, and he’s definitely male. Philosophically, there’s absolutely nothing distinctive about Huckabee, unless you want to count the fact that he’s lost a bunch of weight and now runs marathons.
Of course, Huckabee is STILL a DUMB@$$…as if there was any doubt….
