Another milestone for literature

Happy Coulterspüwen Day

It’s that time again. It’s Coultersp‚àö¬∫wen Day, the day we celebrate the release of Ann Coulter’s latest book, If Democrats Had Any Brains, They’d Be Republicans, by watching her go onto nearly every “news” show from The Today Show to Hardball and rhetorically eat the hearts of the thought-terrorists amongst us.

Amazing what some people can get paid for, isn’t it? Ann Coulter has another “book” out, and as she’s already hitting the talk-show circuit (I saw her holding forth on Today yesterday (no pun intended), you can count on ernest media types nationwide treating her as if she actually has something useful and interesting to say. Man, write a book full of Right-wing hate and ignorance, and you can pretty much count on media outlets treating you as if you’re the second coming of Ronald Reagan.

What truly amazes me is that you can bet that if, say, Howard Dean had written a Coulter-like screed from the Left side of the spectrum, the vitriol directed against him would be almost overpowering. Yet Ann Coulter gets treated like some sort of heroine. Yeah, right…what Liberal media??

It would be one thing if Coulter represented a legitimate, constructive point of view, but when she opines that the best way to talk to a Democrat is with a baseball bat, what does she really have to add to the public discourse?

Then again, this really isn’t about adding anything to the public discourse, is it? No, it’s really about Coulter lining her pockets and getting her massive ego stroked, something fawning, uncritical media outlets are only too willing to do.

WHAT LIBERAL MEDIA??
