Breaking: Despite Decision, Larry Craig Says He’ll Stay In The Senate!
WASHINGTON (AP) - Idaho Sen. Larry Craig defiantly vowed to serve out his term in office on Thursday despite losing a court attempt to rescind his guilty plea in a men’s room sex sting…. “I have seen that it is possible for me to work here effectively,” Craig said in a written statement certain to disappoint fellow Republicans who have long urged him to step down. Craig had earlier announced he would resign his seat by Sept. 30, but had wavered when he went to court in hopes of withdrawing his plea. The third-term lawmaker issued his statement not long after Idaho Gov. C.L. “Butch” Otter relayed word he has selected a replacement for Craig in the event of a resignation…. In his statement, Craig said he will not run for a new term next year. But in the meantime, he said: “I will continue my effort to clear my name in the Senate Ethics Committee - something that is not possible if I am not serving in the Senate.”
Well, it’s not like the guy has to worry about losing his dignity or impugning his integrity. That train’s long since left the station with former DUMB@$$ AWARD wiener Sen. Larry Craig (R-ID) on it. There was a time when I may have been willing to display some compassion for the embarrassmen he’d caused both himself and his family. Since that time, though, Craig has shown himself more than willing to weather all manner of indignities for the sake of keeing his seat in the Senate. Yes, it’s true…power corrupts, and Republican power means being able to solicit police officers for illicit gay sex in airport restrooms with no fear of accountability.
I can’t help but wonder…is Craig really that power-hungry? Is his position so important to him that he has no problem with become a national laughingstock? Apparently so.
