If it sounds too good to be true....

Hoax emails of naked Angelina Jolie cause 80% of computer viruses

Want to see naked pictures of your favourite Hollywood actresses? It could cost you an expensive trip to your local computer repair shop if you do. Fake emails claiming to offer nude photographs of Angelina Jolie, Nicole Kidman, Natalie Portman, Milla Jovovich and pixelated videogame babe Lara Croft are behind 80 per cent of computer viruses last month, according to experts. For, though claiming to contain shocking pictures of female celebrities, the emails, once opened, install a malicious rootkit…. “These emails are masquerading as pornographic content, tempting the unwary into opening a file on their Windows computer which will install a rootkit and download further malicious code from the internet,” said Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant for Sophos.

When I first read this story, my first thought was to wonder just how stupid one has to be to fall for this sort of thing. Anyone who has even a passing familiarity with the Internet could likely find naked pictures of Angelina Jolie (or just about any other female celebrity inside of 2 1/2 minutes. Trust me; it ain’t that tough to do. They’re out there, and they’re easily accessible…and if someone is sending you an email purporting to have naked pictures of Angelina Jolie, and you fall for it…well…don’t say you weren’t warned.

If you really want naked pictures of someone, they’re not going to come anonymously through your email. Of course, if you’re one of those folks who really believe that you’ve won the lottery in the Republic of Berzerkistan and all you have to do is to cash this money order that appeared out of nowhere….

Then again, perhaps this is just the universe’s way of telling you that you have too damn much time on your hands, eh?
