J.K. Rowling Outs Hogwarts Character
Conservatives Attack Gay Dumbledore; Claim Vindication For Jerry Falwell’s Homophobia
On Friday, British author J.K. Rowling revealed for the first time that Albus Dumbledore, one of the central heroes in the record-breaking Harry Potter series, is in fact a gay man. Asked if Dumbledore, ‚Äúwho believed in the prevailing power of love,‚Äù had ever fallen ‚Äúin love himself,‚Äù Rowling said that he once had with another male wizard. While Rowling considers her novels to be a ‚Äúprolonged argument for tolerance‚Äù and most fans were ‚Äúthrilled with the announcement,‚Äù some conservative blogs are criticizing the revelation…. One prominent conservative blog, Newsbusters, is claiming that the revelation somehow vindicates the late Rev. Jerry Falwell, who was showered with ridicule in 1999 after declaring that one of the Teletubbies, Tinky Winky, was gay. Mark Finkelstein, a Republican official in upstate New York, writes that ‚Äúsomewhere, Jerry Falwell is smiling‚Äù about the news….

MEMO TO J.K. ROWLING: PLEASE DO NOT FEEL THE TROLLS!!
Good God, can anyone recall a more pointless public utterance than this one? I understand what Rowling may have been trying to accomplish, but shouldn’t a children’s book be exactly that…and not a platform for political posturing of ANY flavor? All Rowling has really succeeded in doing is throwing raw meat to a few hungry Right-wing nutjobs with too much time on their hands and an oversupply of rampant, intolerant self-righteousness.
OHMIGOD….IT’S THE HOMOSEXUAL AGENDA IN THE PAGES OF OUR CHILDREN’S BOOKS!!!! WHAT ABOUT THE CHILDREN??
‘Course, it IS kinda fun watching these trolls wind themselves up, isn’t it? I especially enjoy it when their faces turn all red and then veins in their foreheads begin to pulsate. Someday, one of them poor bugger’s pointy li’l haid is just gonna ‘splode…knowhutimean??
Actually, I think I’d pay to see that….

Actually I'm convinced she only brought it up to tweak the trolls who keep trying to have the Potter books banned.
On the commercial side, they have to buy the books before they can burn them.
The sad thing is all of the geeky Harry Potter fans who think these characters are real people.
Yeah...they're probably the same folks who hang out at Star Trek conventions.
When the first Harry Potter book was released, the wife didn't want the kids to read it. Seems she was watching "The God Channel" (the kids term) and saw a couple of snake oil salesmen scaring people into donating because the book promoted witchcraft, and they needed money to warn people of the danger. I'm not kidding.
Maybe JK felt that some well timed publicity would help sales. Happy Halloween, Jesus!
I don't often agree 100% with what you say, but in this case I do. PUUUHLEEZE can we leave sexual orientation out of kids books. I don't know who is stranger, the person asking the question about a fictional character or Rowling for actually going to the trouble to imagine a homosexual affair (that really has no relevance to the plot)for a fictional character. And, like you, I can smell the book burning bible belt mamas on the march to have this filth removed from the school library. Just my 2cents. Lurk mode back on.
As dissapointing as it is to me, I have to conclude that Jack Cluth is a fictional character.
