Is Rush Limbaugh bad for America?

Limbaugh offering inconsistent explanations for “phony soldiers” comment

Take Rush Limbaugh Off Armed Forces Radio

Responding to criticism of his “phony soldiers” comments, Rush Limbaugh again asserted that he had been referring to multiple military imposters — including Jesse MacBeth — rather than service members or former service members with whom he disagrees. Limbaugh described MacBeth as “the man I was referring to and others like him as ‘phony soldiers.’ ” But immediately after the controversy erupted over his comments, Limbaugh twice claimed that he was “talking about one soldier with that ‘phony soldier’ comment, Jesse MacBeth.”

If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times- free speech can be, and often is, offensive speech. No one personifies this more than Rush Limbaugh, who manages to take bloviation to new heights, or depths…depending on your perspective.

As I much as I detest Limbaugh for being an arrogant asswipe convinced of his own relevance and surpassing brilliance, I have no choice but to defend his right to say what’s on his mind. Of course, that doesn’t mean I have to let it slide unchallenged, or that I can’t condemn his arrogance and stunning ignorance. Yes, ‘tis better to be thought a self-satisfied, supercilious fool than to be Rush Limbaugh and remove all doubt, eh?

It’s one thing to be a Conservative and defend your viewpoint by making a logical, organized, and rational argument. It’s quite another to use name-calling, insults, and innuendo to impugn the intelligence, courage, and reputation of those you happen to disagree with. I can accept the fact that Limbaugh will never be anything but a knne-jerk Conservative Republican. What I refuse to accept is the disturbing ignorance and dismissiveness with which Limbaugh somehow supports his arguments- the “I’m right, and you’re too stupid to know any better” argument. Why and how this reprobate manages to maintain an audience not only defies rational explanation, it’s also a very sad commentary on the overall state of informed, intelligent discourse in this country…as in it’s virtually nonexistent.

The problem is that Limbaugh IS bad for America. His narrow, ignorant, and egocentric take on politics does nothing to support America or to advance the interests of this great nation. Free speech being what it is, though, Limbaugh is free to spew his ignorance and hatred to the four winds if he so chooses. What’s so thoroughly disturbing is that the maroon still manages to attract such a drooling, knuckle-dragging audience. Then again, I suppose that sort of diversity is what makes this country great, eh? Yes, being an American means being free to display your astounding ignorance for all to see…and if you can make a living off it, so much the better.

And you wonder why this country is so thoroughly (&^%$# up….
