Got breast milk? Iowa mom selling hers for $200 or best offer
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa ‚Äö√Ñ√Æ A woman who doesn’t want her breast milk to go to waste has taken out a newspaper ad in hopes of selling it. Martha Heller, 22, took out an ad in The Gazette newspaper offering 100 ounces of her breast milk for $200 or the best offer. Heller said her freezer is overflowing with breast milk she has pumped since August. Her 4-month-old daughter won’t drink from a bottle and the supply is piling up.
I suppose this should be filed under too much of a good thing, eh? Then again, the first thing that came to mind when I read this story was “cash cow”. Get it? Milk? Cow?
Oh, never mind….
I suppose you could also credibly file this under “yet another reason I’m glad I was born male”. Just hearing the terms “breast milk” and “breast pump” in the same sentence give me the creeps. Yeah, I can’t imagine carrying a pregnancy to term and enduring all of the myriad discomforts and indignities associated with birthing a little urchin. This is probably why breeding is limited to the female of the species. If men like me had to share the burden, we’d be dealing with negative population growth.
I do have to admire Heller’s chutzpah, though. She’s offering 100 ounces for $200? That’s about three litres of breast milk for that price…man, I think I’ll stick to Diet Coke. It’s a helluva lot cheaper AND you can recycle the plastic bottle when you’re done with it.
