DUMB@$$ AWARD wiener #686: Darryl Worley

This video is about the single most transparent piece of ignorant, amoral propaganda to emerge out of Nashville in quite some time. Then again, I’d expect nothing less from Darryl Worley, who seems to think it his place to wax poetic over an immoral war purchased by lies and propaganda. Like so many of his fellow Republithugs, Worley takes something resembling a grain of truth and around it manages to construct a reality built on the soft sand of propaganda, half-truths, and outright, politically-motivated fabrications. It would be sad if it weren’t so thoroughly amoral and dishonest…but at least in that respect, he can give Toby Keith a run for his money. Yeah, I know…this song was recorded in 2003, but while the sentiments expressed may have meant something then, now the lyrics merely ring hollow and hypocritical. I’ve been hearing it with increasing frequency on local country radio, so it’s not as if Worley doesn’t have help spreading his melodic ignorance and propaganda.

I listen to a lot of country music (10+ years living in Texas will do that to you, I suppose), mostly because my life currently resembles a country song, but country radio, which has a well-deserved reputation for ultra-Conservatism, has truly outdone itself with their slavering over this piece of musical propaganda. It’s trite, it’s sickening, and it’s indicative of just how little critical thinking goes into the political philosophy of those on the Far Right.

Have Your Forgotten? sounds as if it was paid for by the Republican National Committee. It could have been a centerpiece of Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader’s © 2004 re-election campaign- and in a sense it was. Worley, never renowned for being an open-minded sort to begin with, has written and recorded a beautiful piece of Right-wing propaganda. It may have no basis in the truth, but it’s got a nice beat and it sets your toe to tapping, so if it’s a bit too “America, right or wrong”…well, who’s going to be paying attention to the message, anyway?
