Another DUMB@$$ AWARD wiener

What Group Of People Will Phil Jackson Offend Next?

DUMB@$$ AWARD wiener #689: Phil Jackson

Los Angeles Lakers coach Phil Jackson caused a mini-firestorm this week when in his attempt at post-game humor, inadvertently offended a handful of homosexuals. Jackson was quoted as saying the Lakers’ loss to the San Antonio Spurs was called a “Brokeback Mountain” game because of all the “penetration” and “kickouts.” The beat writers got a laugh out of it. Gays? Not so much.

When I heard this clip from Jackson after a recent game, I have to admit to being quite surprised. Jackson, who has always impressed me as being a rather erudite, well-spoken, and sensitive sort, demonstrated that given the right confluence of events, he could be just as big a DUMB@$$ as anyone. Not that that should surprise anyone, I suppose, but I’d hoped for better. Then again, I just suppose this goes to show that when you begin to put too much faith in sports figure, they eventually prove you wrong (and stupid).

The worst part of this sorry episode for me is that nothing that Jackson says even makes sense. If he was trying to change up the usual post-game cliches, perhaps he’d be better off just sticking to the old tried and true sound bites…’cuz when he goes off the reservation, Lord only knows what might come flying out of his mouth.

I would imagine that most Gays and Lesbians are smart enough to recognize that Jackson is just another macho sports figure marinating in his own testosterone. Consider the source, and move on. Nonetheless, Jackson knows better, though you might not recognize that given his half-assed apologia. Yep…here be a DUMB@$$….
