It'a all about keeping your priorities straight

Republican Women Are Hotter Than Democrat Women, Contends Objective Group Of Dickweed Fratboys

“Your Women Are Ugly!” is not a political argument

I Write Letters

This new graphic being sent around by people on Facebook makes the subversive argument that Republican women are prettier than Democrat women. And initially I was flattered, because unless it’s your job to be pretty, being really pretty is usually a sign that you’re spending too much time getting foils applied to your follicles and unnecessarily elevating your heartbeat and not enough time reading up on the issues. But then, you know, I immediately regretted wasting that much time formulating a response. And then I remembered how I used to feel when my little brother would say something like “I’m older than you, in a way,” because although he was actually two years younger his birthday fell two weeks before mine in the same month, and I would argue with him for about three hours until realizing that my time was better spent, you know, reading up on the issues.

Gee, now here’s a political argument that has some teeth to it, eh? If you can’t beat ‘em in a debate…well, all ya gotta do is to call their women ugly and…BOOM!…end of argument. Yeah, Libruls just hate it when you insult their women…especially when there are so many hot Republican women playing media whore these days.

The idea that physical beauty somehow connotes the superiority of Right-wing political philosophy is absurd on it’s face, but given that this image appears to be currently making the rounds on Facebook, there would be appear to be more than a few trolls who subscribe to this theory. Not exactly a political philosophy with sound ideological underpinnings, but then who’d want to kick one of those Republican women out of bed, eh? Certainly no red-blooded patriotic American male. And those who would are probably homos (and Libruls), anyway….

Given the general tenor of this campaign season, I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised that this sort of thing is even part of the public discourse. It’s not as if the candidates themselves are offering much themselves in the way of meaningful political dialogue. Uh…let’s see; Republicans are bashing Sen. Hillary Clinton and chanting “9.11” as if it were some sort of mantra. And Democrats are almost to a man bashing Clinton. Yeah, that’s helpful, eh??

No, “Your women are ugly” is most assuredly NOT an effective argument. Given the moral and intellectual lightweights that make up the Republican field, it’s probably about the best we can hope for. And it’s not as if the Democrats are doing anything materially different.

Silly? Yep. Meaningless? Udamnbetcha. Welcome to the 2008 campaign. It would be nice to have a reasoned, informed debate about the issues this country currently faces, but…well, Jeebus, your women ARE ugly, aren’t they??
