Calls in Sudan for Execution of Briton
KHARTOUM, Sudan (AP) - Thousands of Sudanese, many armed with clubs and knives, rallied Friday in a central square and demanded the execution of a British teacher convicted of insulting Islam for allowing her students to name a teddy bear “Muhammad.” In response to the demonstration, teacher Gillian Gibbons was moved from the women’s prison near Khartoum to a secret location for her safety, her lawyer said. The protesters streamed out of mosques after Friday sermons, as pickup trucks with loudspeakers blared messages against Gibbons, who was sentenced Thursday to 15 days in prison and deportation. She avoided the more serious punishment of 40 lashes. They massed in central Martyrs Square outside the presidential palace, where hundreds of riot police were deployed. They did not try to stop the rally, which lasted about an hour…. “Shame, shame on the U.K.,” protesters chanted. They called for Gibbons’ execution, saying, “No tolerance: Execution,” and “Kill her, kill her by firing squad.”

Yes, here’s another religion that’s jumped the rails because of a small minority of wackjob Fundamentalists bent on killing and destroying everything that doesn’t fit their ignorant, narrow, fear-based view of “how things oughta be”. OK, so Christian Fundamentalists are scary enough…but man, these Islamic Fundies truly give The Religion of Peace © a bad name. Just as Christian Fundamentalism has more to do with ignorance, fear, and control than the teachings of Jesus Christ, so Islamic Fundamentalism is to the teaching of Mohammed. I’m sorry, but if the naming a (&^%$#@ teddy bear after the head of your religion is enough to send you into paroxysms of angry, self-righteous, murderous indignation…well, you clearly haven’t been taking your meds, have you?? We’re talking about a teddy bear here, y’all- a (&^%$#@ child’s toy. If this is the biggest problem that you can identify in your world, you might want to take off your blinders and take a look around you- a good look, because the Islamic world has far bigger issues that the name of a (&^%$#@ teddy bear. Hmm…poverty, lack of edcation, economies stuck in reverse…stop me if you’ve heard this before….
I can think of nothing that makes one look like a bigger fool than this sort of silliness. If one is truly devoted to one’s religion, then wouldn’t it make sense to devote yourself to understanding and following the actual teachings of said religion? Instead, these ignorant, uneducated, intolerant troglodytes are doing their level best to make Islam look like a freak show. They’re are taking a perfectly good religion and twisting it into something unrecognizable. Somewhere in Saudi Arabia, Mohammed is surely spinning in his grave.
